hole in an escutcheon plate, particularly on a dark night, and it is, therefore, the object of this invention to provide simple and efiicient means for facilitating the insertion of the k ey in the key-hole.
Further objects of the invention will appear as the following description is read in connection with the accompanying drawing, which forms a part of this application, and in which Figure l is an elevation. Fig. 2 is a transverse sectional view. Fig. 3 is a vertical sectional view on the line 3-3 of Fig. 1.
Referring more particularly to the drawing, 1 represents an ordinary escutcheon plate having a key-hole 2. Leading into the key-hole are grooves 3 and 4:, the latter extending vertically above the keyhole. and
the former extending vertically below the key-hole. Itwill be, of course, understood that transverse or diagonal grooves may be employed it found to be desirable. In-the structure shown with the vertically arranged grooves the key is passed across the escutcheo'n plate until it enters the groove and then moved either up or down until it enters the key-hole.
What is claimed is 1. An escutcheon plate havin a longitudinally extending groove 0 uniform diameter throughout, a key-hole formed in the walls of the groove intermediate. the
ends thereof, said groove being of a width slightly greater than the end of the key and adapted to guide the key to the keyhole.
2. An escutcheon plate having a longitudinally extending V-shapedgroove and a key hole formed in the walls of the groove, said groove being of slightly greater width than the key hole adapted to effectively guide a key to the key hole.
