Letters Patent No. 111,224, dated January 24, 1871.
lMF ROVEMENT IN CAR-COUPLINGS.
The Schedule referred to in these Letters Patent and making part of the same.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, JOHN MAYBEN, ofiMih-oy, Mitflin county, State of Pennsylvania, have invented a new and useful Improvement in Gar-Couplings; and I do hereby declare thatthe-following is a clear, full, and exact description of y the construction and operation of the same, reference being had to the accompanying drawing making a part of this specification, in whicht Figure 1 is a side view of coupling-block attached to the bumper.
Figure 2 is a detached view of the coupling-tongue and jaws.
Like letters in the two figures represent like parts of the invention.

My invention is designed to provide a car-coupling which may be readily changed in height to suit differ-. ent height cars, and consists of a coupling-block eccentrically arranged and attached to the bumper by a bolt, which is arranged above or below the center of the block.

The coupling-tongue and jaws 0 are securedat the back end by the bolt :1, so arranged that they can be readily removed for repairs or other purposes.

The coupling-block is adjusted loosely upon the bolt, so as to allowit to oscillate to suit the motion of the cars'while running, especially while turning curves.
