Description

ttidi iaia panni effin- Letters Patent No. 111,219, dated January 24, 1871.
IMPROVEMENT IN PUMPS.
The Schedule referred to in these Letters Patent and makingpaxt of the same.
'To 'all whom it may concern Be it known that I, GEORGE H. LAUB, of West Lebanon, in the county of Warren and State of Indiana, have inventada new and useful Improvement in Pumps; and I do hereby declare that the following is a full, clear, and exact description thereof, which will enable others skilled in the art to make and use the same, reference being had to the accompanying draw.
ing forming part of this specification.
This invention relates to any improved ma'nner .of attaching metal barrels for the valves to work into wooden pipes, for detaching-and removing the barrels when required forfcleaning or repairs, as hereinafter described.
Figure 1 is a sectional elevation of my improved pump, and
Figure 2 is a cross-section of the same;v
l Similar letters of reference indicate corresponding parts.
A is the metal barrel;
B, the top of the stock;
C, the upper section of woodpipe; and
D, the lower section.
The barrel has lng's E 'projecting radially from` the ends' o'n two Opposite sides, which have key-holes F through them.
These lugs are passed through holes in the woodclamping bars G, and the said bars, after being engaged with the stock B and the lower pipe D,f are keyed up snugly against the sides of the barrel A.
They'are nailed or otherwise fastened at the top to the short pieces H, which, together with the said upper ends, -form the base or seat for the top B, which sits ou the top and has a hoop or band, 1 projecting from it so as to receive the said upper ends.
The lower ends have lugs K, which are pressed into sockets formed for them inthe upper end of the wood section D.v
The top of section I) is fitted to enter the lower end of the barrel A, which has a collar, L, to rest on the top of said section.
The part O of. the wood pipe is designed to he permanently attached to the top B, and the lower endv enters the top of the barrel. v
rI his construct-ion alords a simple means for readily detaching the barrel when it may be required to have access to it, which is done bytirst lifting the top and section() oli', then 'releasing the bars G by driving out the vkeys and disengaging the lugs K from section D,
when the barrel may be raised-ont of the well,
Having thus described my invention,
I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent-'- The combination ofthe barrel A, bars G, wood .pipes C D, top B,hand I, lngsE K,and keys, all
