SANITARY BOTTLE-CLOS-URE.
T0 all whom it may concern.'
Be it known t-hat I, WILLIAM F. HUFT, a'citizen of the United Stat/es, residing at Long Beach, in the county of Los Angeles and State of California, have invented a new and useful Sanitary Bottle-Closure, of which the following is a speciication. t
My invention relates to improvements in sanitary bottle closures, and the object of my invention is to provide a sanitary covering or closure for milk bottles or the like to prevent the accumulation of dust and germs on the mouth of the bottle Which may be frictionally held in and easily removed from position in the bottle.
ther objects may appear in the subjoined description.
l attain this object by means of the mechanism illustrated in the accompanying drawings, in Which- Figure l is 'an elevation a bottle showing the top thereof in section and with my closure in position at the top. Fig.- 2 is a bottom vieW of a pasteboard blank disk before it is formed as shown in Fig. 1. Fig. 3
is a section through the center of Fig. 2. A
Similar reference numerals refer to t-he same parts throughout the several views of the drawings.
My closure is 'adapted principally for use in connection with the common typeof milk bottles, in Which an annular shoulder 5 is provided on the inner side of the neck of the bott-les for the purpose of seating a closure or cap against, and that portion of the inner side of the neck immediately above this shoulder tapers or inclines inwardly therefrom in order to hold the closure in place after it has been forced into position against the shoulder. I am avvare of patents having been' granted to Ray and Russel Patent #1,038,651 in which` a closure is provided which partakes somewhat of the form of my invention, but in which the locking feature of my invent-ion as herein disclosed is not included, and over Which said locking fea- Specication of Letters Patent. ture is a distinct improvement. Reference is also had to a previous application filed b v me Aug. 14, 1913, Serial #784,764, in which other valuable improvements are disclosed.
My closure is first formed int-o a circular disk as shown in Fig. 2 after which bv a suitable means a circular cut 7 is made iii one side of the disk, said cut being concentric with regard tothe periphery of the disk. The disk may then be placed in a forming die and formed into the shape as shown in Fig. 1. The cut 7 is designed to extend not quite through-the thickness of the disk, and When formed as in Fig. 1, the exterior portion of the disk 3 is curved outwardly and downwardly so as to rest upon and completely cover the top edge 8 of the neck of the bottle 2, the outer side of the cut 7 Will rest upon the annular shoulder 5 in the neck of the bottle and the innei edge of the cut will occupy the space in the center of the bottle adjacent to said shoulder and the central portion of the closure 6 serves to cover the opening in the neck. The inner and lower portion of the part 3 will engage the inclined s portion of the neck and serve to retain the closure in the bottle. In this manner, the top edge of the bottle may be prevented from accumulating dust and, germs, and the closure rendered easily removable from the'bottle, the latter operation being accomplished grasping the edge of the curved portion 3 and pulling 'it upwardly from its seat in the neck.
What I claim as my invention and desire Letters Patent for is: i
1. The combination of a bottle having an annular shoulder formed in the neck thereof; and a closure'disk having an annular groove cut in one side, the outer edge of said groove beingl adapted to rest upon said shoulder and the inner edge thereof to engage the side of said shoulder for holding said disk firmly in position in said bottle.
2. The combination of a bottle having an annular shoulder foi-mcd in the neck thereof; and 'a closure disk having an annular bent outwardlyand upwardly around the groove out in one side,' the outer edge of edge of said neck.
which is adapted to rest upon the top and the inner edge to engage the side of said shoulder; the inner portion of said disk Within said groove forming a closure for the neck and the outer portion thereof being WILLIAM F. HUFF.
