THOMAS w. ALLEN, OF WATERBURY, CONNECTICUT.
Letters Patent 160,111,102, dated January 24, 1871..
IMPROVEMENT IN CHARGERS F OR'SH'OT-PQU CHES.
The Schedple referred to in these Letters Patent and making pail: of the same.
To all whom it may concern:
' seription of the same, and which said drawing constitutes part of this specification, and represents int- Figure 1, a side view of the charger complete,
Figure 2, the blank from which the lever and supporter are formed;
Figure 3, a front view of the same; and in Figure 4, the supporter as heretofore constructed. This invention relates to an improvement in the construction of the bearing for the lever of chargers for shot-pouches. I
Heretofore this has been formed from a solid piece of metal, milled and brought into shape for the purpose desired, as seen in fig. 4, occasiouiug no inconsiderable amount of labor andvconsequent expense. To avoid this is the object of my invention, which consists in forming the'bearing from a blank of sheet.
metal, the two ears for the support of the lever being in one and the sz'ime piece, and doubled to form a space forthe lever between the two ears, and, at the same time, to bring the perforations of the two cars in line with each other.
A is the charger;
B, the lever;
0, one gate, and D, the other gate, of common construction;-
Toforr'n the bearing F of the lever I strikea block from sheet metal, as seen in fig, 2, with two ears, a, corresponding-to each other, and united together at the base (I, and with metal extending down, as at "n n, to form the two tenons. This portion of the metal is made thinner, to form a shoulder, t, for the tenons,
as seenin fig. 3.
I strike up the blank in suitable'dies, douhling it,
as seen in fig, 3, to form a space,-f, between the two ears,;and so as to bring the twoears in line with each other, and, at the same time, a bearing, a, for the spring E; thus the bearing is produced in the required shape without milling or filing, "and is inserted into thenio'rtises in the charger and secured in the usual manner 7 I claim as my 'invention-- The bearing F, for the support of the lever B ii'ra shot-charger, formed froni sheet metal "and doubled to bring the two cars at into line and form a space for the lever, substantially in the manner herein described. l
