  • This invention relates to improvements in delivery-facilitating devices for buildings, and more especially to a delivery-facilitating device which comprises a substantially vertically arranged and substantially quadrangular door-case adapted to be inserted into an opening in an outer wall or portion of a building and provided with a door which is pivotally connected to said doorcase in suitable proximity to the top of the door-case and arranged to swing in a vertical plane and endwise of the door-case and inwardly in opening and abuts in the closed position of the door against the inner side of a flange formed on the bottom portion of the door-case.

DELIVERY-FACILITATING DEVICE FOR BUILDINGS.

To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, CHARLES FOHMAN, a citizen of the United States of America, residing at Cleveland, in the county of Guyahoga and State of Ohio, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in De livery-Facilitating Devices for Buildings; and I hereby declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it pertains to make and use the same.
This invention relates to improvements in delivery-facilitating devices for buildings, and more especially to a delivery-facilitating device which comprises a substantially vertically arranged and substantially quadrangular door-case adapted to be inserted into an opening in an outer wall or portion of a building and provided with a door which is pivotally connected to said doorcase in suitable proximity to the top of the door-case and arranged to swing in a vertical plane and endwise of the door-case and inwardly in opening and abuts in the closed position of the door against the inner side of a flange formed on the bottom portion of the door-case.
One object of this invention is to provide a delivery-facilitating device of the charac ter indicated which is exceedingly simple and durable in construction.
Another object is to adequately obstruct the passage of rain, snow and dirt and dust to the bottom edge of the door from the outer end of the door-case.
With these objects in view, and to the end of attaining any other advantage hereinafter appearing, this invention consists in certain features of construction, and combinations and relativearrangement of'parts, hereinafter described, pointed out in the claims, and illustrated in the accompanying drawings. i
In said drawings, Figure 1 is an outer end view, partly in section, of a deliveryfacilitating device embodying my invention. Fig. 2 is an inner end view of said device. Fig. 3 is a horizontal section on line 38, Fig. 1, looking-downwardly. Fig. 4 is a vertical section on line d4l, Fig. 1, looking in the direction indicated by the arrow. Fig. 5 is a view corresponding with Fig. 8 so far as the door-case of the delivery-facili tating device is concerned, but the door is shown open in Fig. 5, and in dotted lines ing.
Fig. 5 is shown the manner of applying the door to the door-case.
Referring to said drawings, A indicates a substantially vertically arranged and substantially quadrangular metal door-case adapted to be inserted into an opening (not shown) formed in an outer wall or portion of a building. The door-case A is provided at its outer end with a flange 10 running around said end of the door-case and provided with bolt-holes 12 for receiving bolts (not shown) employed in connection with nuts (not shown) for securing said doorcase to a building to be provided with my improved delivery-facilitating device.
B indicates door applied to the doorcase A, which door consists preferably of a .metal plate and is pivotally connected to the upper portion of the door-case in proximity to the top edge of the door and arranged to swing in a vertical plane and endwise of the door-case and inwardly in openit will be observed therefore that the door B is arranged to permit and facilitate the delivery of packages and other articles at said door to the interior of a building which is to be provided with my improved delivery-facilitating device. Preferably the door B is provided near its top edge with two pivotal members 5 projecting from opposite side edges respectively of the door and arranged horizontally and in line endwise, and the door-case is provided in each side portion thereof and in proximity to the top of the door-case with a hole 13 arranged horizontally and in line endwise with the corresponding hole in the opposite side portion of the door-case, and said holes are en gaged by the aforesaid pivotal members of the door. The arrangement of the pivotal members Z) is such relative to the ends of the door-case that the axis of the door is arranged between the outer end of the doorcase and a point centrally between the outer and inner ends of the door-case. Each side portion of the door-case is provided in its inner side with a recess 1% extending from the hole 13 in said portion to the inner end of the door-case, and said recess is reduced in depth toward said hole. against the inner side of a flange a which is'formed' on the bottom portion of the doorcase at the upper side of said bottom por tion, which flange extends between the lower ends of the side portions of the door-case.
7 By the, construction hereinbefore described it will be observed that the split 16, the recesses l, the reduction in depth of said recesses' toward the holes 18, and the sloping surface 15 on one of the pivotal members of the door facilitate the assemblage of the parts. The flange a is arranged to cover the outer side of the door along the bottom edge of the door in the'closed position of the door, and said flange, is preferably arranged, between the inner end of the doorcase and a point centrally between the inner and outer ends of the door-case. Preferably each side portion of the door-case is provided with a flange 18 arranged at the outer side of the door and extending from the adjacent end of the flange a upwardly and somewhat outwardly into proximity to the axis of the door. The flanges a and 18 participate in obstructing the passage of dust and dirt to the bottom edge and side edges of the door from the outer end of the door-case, but to adequately obstruct the passage of rain and snow to the bottom edge of the door from said end of the doorcase the door is provided at its outer side with an outwardly projecting flange 17 V which extends transversely of the door and is arranged over and in close proximity to the flange a of the door-case in the closed position. of the door. In a delivery-facilitating device, a substantially Vertically arranged and substantially quadrangular door-case, and a door for said door-case, which door is pivotally connected to the upper portion of the doorcase and arranged to swing in a Vertical plane and endwise of the door-case and inwardly in opening, the door-case being provided at the upper side of its bottom portion with an upwardly projecting flange which extends between the side portions of the door-case and is arranged between the inner extremity of the door-case and a point centrally between the inner and outer ends of the door-case, the door being arranged to abut at its outer side against the inner side of said flange, and each side portion of the door-case being provided with a flange arranged at the outer side of the door and extending upwardly from the adjacent end of the first-mentioned flange into proximity to the axis of the door.
