T0 all whom. it may concern Be it known that I, JoiiN l. SCHNEIDER, a citizen of the United States, residing at Chicago, in the county of Cook and State of Illinois, have invented certain new and useful Im irovemeiits in Eye-Shades, of which the following is a full, cleai, concise, and exact description, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, forming a part of this specification.

Mv invention relates to eye shades and its object is to provide an improved device of this character which can be economically manufactured.

The embodiment of my invention, hereinafter described iii detail and subse uentlv claimed, comprises a vizor provide with backwardly projecting bands arranged to eiicrcle the head of the wearer to prevent lateral displacement of the vizor. Secured to the rearwardly rejecting bands just mentioned are other ands arranged to extend over the top of the head of the wearer and so prevent downward displacement of the vizor. The vizor and the several bands before mentioned are preferably made of celluloid or some other light and flexible material. Connecting the straps for preventing tlie downward displacement of the vizor and the rear edge of the vizor is a relatively stiff strap, preferably of metal, which spaces the rear edge of the vizor from the forehead of the wearer of the eye shade and thus does away with the anno ance which would iesiilt from having tie vizor engage the forehead.

The several elements of the device of my invention are ad'ustable in order that the device may be at aptcd for use by different persons.

These and other features of the device of my invention are set foitli in detail in the accompanying description and are illustratcd in the accompanying drawings in whicli- Figure 1 is a side elevational view illustiating the eye shade of my invention in place upon the head of a wearer, and Fig. 2 is a fragmentary plan view illustrating the vizor, the straps which prevent downward displacement of the vizor and the strap which retains the rear edge of the vizor out of engagement with the forehead of the wearer.

In the drawings, at B I have illustrated a vizor, preferably of celluloid or some other equivalent light and flexible material, said vizor being provided with a pair of bands or straps 4 formed integral with the vizor, saidbands being arranged to encircle the head of a wearer to prevent lateral displacenient of the vizor and having their rear ends secured together by means of a suitiible clip oi' fastener 5.

Fastened to each one of the straps -1 by means of a clip or fastener (i is one of a pair of straps 7 arranged to be secured together by means of a clip oi' fastener 8, these straus extending up over the top of the hea of the wearer and so preventing downward displacement of the vizor. The clip 8 extends through registering apertures 1n the stiaps T and so secures the adiaceiit encis of the straps together. A loop 9 may, if desired, be provided for holding adjacent faces of the straps snugly together when they are overlapped, as shown in the drawiii s. The clip 8 also passes through a suitab e one of a number of apertures formed in one end of a relatively stiff strap l0, )referably of sheet metal, the other end ofI which strap is fastened by means of a clip or fastener 11 to the rear edge of the vizor 3. This strap 10, as clearly shown in Fig. l, spaces the rear edge of the vizor from the forehead of the wearer. This strap at the sinne time assists the straps 7 in preventing the downward displacement of the vizor.

What I claiii and desire to secure by Letters Patent of the United States is:

1. In an eye shade a vizor in combination with means for preventing lateral and downward displacement of the vizor comprising a band adapted to pass over the iead of a wearer from side to side, and a relatively still' strip connecting said band with the rear edge of the vizor adapted to space the rear et ge of the vizor from the forehead of the wearer.

2. In an eye shade a vizor in combination with a. band attached to the vizor adapted to extend around the head of a wearer to prevent lateral displacement of the vizor, a second band having its ends attached to the first band adapted to pass over the head of a wearer from side to side to prevent downward displacement of the vizor, and a relallo wearer.

3. In an eye shade, e vizor in combination with means for preventing letel'ei and downward ispiecement of the vizor comprising ebend adfipted to pass over the head of a wearer from side to side, and a e relatively stiff metal strip connecting said band with the rear edge of the vizer adapted to space the rear edge of the vizor from the forehead of the wearer.
