Description

L. COHEN; ADJUSTABLE HAT CONFORMER AND RETAINER.
APPLICATION man JULY 30.1914.

[ ikvaiazbm' Jam fifiem levying is a specification vention consists storied menace.
To all 11175077 zit-may con/em Be it known that I, TJEON CoHEN,:a citizen f of the United States, and resident :of St. ouis, Missouri, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Adjustable Hat Conformers and clear, and exact description, reference :being had to the accompanying drawings, forming a part hereof.
My invention relates to improvements in adjustable hat conformers and retainers, and the object of my invention is to ,oonstruct a simple and inexpensive device arranged be secured Within a hat/crown, for the purpose of conforming the hat to different sized heads or to adapt the hat to different coiffures, as vvell as to serve as a means for retaining the hat in ployment' of extraneous securing devices, such as the ordinary liat pins, Which,as is well known, deteriorate the hats,and'to-con street the device insuch manner that it may be either expanded or contracted after being secured in the hat;
With the above" purposes in viewyin'y inin certain novel :Eeatures of construction and arrangement of parts which Will hereinafter beyfully describedf pointed out in my claims, and illustrated by theaccompanying drawings, iii which:
Figure 1 shows asimple, sectional elevation of a hat having the device of my invention secured therein; Fig. 2 is a fragmental inverted plan of a hat With my improved device therein; Fig. 3 is an enlarged fragmental sectional elevation showing the detailed construction of the device; and Fig. l a perspective showing the terminal ends 7 of the device removed from the hat.
Referring by numerals to theaccompanying drawings: 5 designates the crown and 6 the brim of the hat, which are of ordinary construction and of themselves form no part of my invention. The crown and brim may vary infinitely as to configuration and relative dimensions,as fashion dictates, Without altering the design or utility of my improved device.-
The body portion of my improved device comprises'two elongated, connected casings or tubes 7 and 8', preferably constructed of a. single piece of flexible textile material, which caslngs'are made parallel, but When use are substantially at right angles, rela- M Specification of Letters'Patent.

as a strip 9 of relatively stiff masuch as buckram, preferably rein- .bythe wires which strip 9 and terlal,
forced for the adjustment of the cord. I Secured at open end of the casing 8 opposite the tongue r1 ht angles to the casing in a plane substantially thereto. I
It is obvious from this construction that the entire device may be either expanded or contracted as required, to fit different sized heads or different coiflures, and that the tension of the cord may be varied as desired on thelaody of the device. Such a device may sold independent of the hats, andby reason of its adjustability will fit various sizesv of cut coifl'ures, and provides an elastic cord adjustment to. suit the. comforts. of the wearer. I
Having thus described my invention, what I claim as new therein and desire to secure place against be adjusted in the same hat to fit difier-.
tively. Secured-in one of these casings or tubes (8) as required be manufactured and v requirements and lfiy. Letters Patent of the United States thereor, is: 1. A device of the class described, comprising a pair of parallel connected casings, 5 a relatively inflexible reinforce for one of .said casings, said reinforce at its one end arranged to be insertedinto the opposite end of the casing with which it is associatedand an elastic cord within the other casing, said casings. being substantially at angles, relatively, when in use. i
2.- A-device of the class described, comprising a pair of parallel casings constructed from a single piece right of flexible material, a 15' relatively inflexible reinforce within the one casing, one end of which rejects beyond the casing for insertion in t e opposite end. of the casing to provide for ad3ustment and 'continuit and an elastic, flexible cordcarried by t e othercasing, said casings being .20
substantially at right angles, relatively, when in use. p a
In testimony whereof, I have signed-my name to this specification, in presence of two subscribing witnesses.
