WATER-TUBE BOILER. 1' 1 To all whom it may concern:
Be it known'that I, ROBERT'DELAUNA Y- I'SELLEVILLE, citizen of the French Republic, residing at St. Denis, Department of the Seine, in France, have invented certain new and useful Improvements {Water Tube Boilers; and I do hereby declare thefollowing to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, suchaaswill enable others skilled in the art to which it appere tains to make and use the same.
The present invention" relates to boilers, and has for its object to provide an improved boiler element of the Belleville type.
The invention consists in composing each element of .a spiral coil having clockwise convolutions and a spiral coil having anticlockwise convolutions and also in mounting the junction boxes of the boiler tubes in staggered relation.
The invention is illustrated-in the accompanying drawings, in which Figure 1 shows the element in side elevation. Fig. 2 is a front elevation of the element showing the front boxes superposed in horizontal position. Fig. 3 is a front elevation showing the rear boxes projected in a vertical plane. Fig. 4 is a section on the line XX in Fig. 1.
In the form of construction shown in the drawings, the elements consist of two spiral coils, one of which has clockwise convolutions and the other has anti-clockwise convolutions. 1
The front boxes are designated by the letter A for the spiral having clockwise convolutions with an index indicating the tier of the box in the spiral proceeding from below upward. The front boxes of the spiral having anti-clockwise convolutions are designated by the letter B with an index indicating the tier of the box in the spiral.
The rear boxes are designated by AR with an index for the spiral having clockwise convolutions and by BRwith index for the spiral having anti-clockwise convolutions.
The tubes are designated by the letters a. and b with an index indicating the tier of the tube in each of the spiralsfrom below upward.
In order not to confuse the drawings, the reference letters have only been placed upon the spiral having clockwise convolutions of one element and upon the spiral having anti- Spec ification of Letters Patent. i

In Fig.'4, the broken lines indicate the circulation'paths -in"-the spirals A and B, the horizontal portions of these lines represent the .paths in the boxes; the vertical portions represent the paths in the tubes in rising from the first front box to the first rear box, then from the first rear box to the second front box, then from the second front box to the second rear box and so on in succession.
For the spiral having clockwise convolue tions, the first tube a proceeds from the front box A (Fig. 2) which is in communication with the feed collector; this tube rises from the front toward the rear and is fixed to the right of the box AR (Fig. 3) the tube passes from right to left in the box AR, rises toward the front and is fixed on the left of the box A the current trav-' erses this box from left to right. The tube of proceeds from the right of the box A rises toward the rear and is fixed to the right of the box AR"; the current traverses this box from right to left. The tube a proceeds from the right of the box AR rising toward the front and is fixed to the left of the box A and so on in succession; the tube a? connects the right of the box A with the right of the box AR the tube a connects the left of the box AR with the box A which communicates with the steam purifying collector.
The order is similar to the above for the.
spiral having anti-clockwise convolutions, the only difference between the two being that the paths for the current in the boxes are in opposite directions. In the boxes of is fixedto the left of the box BB1; the
tube 12 proceeds from the right of the box box BB passes to the front and is fixed to-therright of the box B the tube 6 proceeds from the left of the box B proceeds to the rear and is fixed to the left of the box BB the tube 6 proceeds from the right of the box BB proceeds to the frontand is fixed to the box 13 which is in communication with the steam purifying collector.

A boiler element of the Belleville type, composed of a spiral coil having clockwise convolutions and a spiral coil having anticlockwise convolutions, the front boxes on the one hand and the rear boxes on the other hand being superposed but disposed in staggered relation, the left hand half of the boxes of the second spiral coil resting upon the right hand half of the boxes of the first spiral coil and vice versa, all the tubes rising from front to rear on the one hand and all the tubes rising from rear to front on the other hand being parallel and equally spaced.
