' BOTTLE-CLOSURE.
To all whom'it may concern Be 1t known that we, ALBERT and FRANK M.-NEBINGER, citizens of the l specification of Letters latent. v Application filed April 2, 1912. $eria1No.1688,108. i
P. FULMER:
United States, residing at WVilmington, in the county of New Castle and State of--Del-f have invented new and useful Iniaware,
of which the provements in Bottle-Closures,
following is a specification.
This invention relates to. bottle closures and has for an object to provide a closure which will be particularly designed for use. or like beverage bottles" wherein:
upon beer means are employedfor efiectuallyjpermiti ting the stopper to be opened or closed.
Another object of the invention is to provide a bottle closure wherein the closure supporting bail is provided with combined guard and manipulating portions which are disposed below the planeof the eyesfof the stopper lock and associated with relation to the fulcrum of the stopper lock whereby they can be readily manipulated to release the stopper from a closed position without necessitating manipulation of the stopper lock. 1
A still further object of the invention is to provide means for preventing the manipulating portions "of the stopper supporting bail from becoming accidentally disconnected from the eyes of the stopper locking member. p
In the drawing forming a portionof this application and in which like letters of reference indicate similar parts in the several views Figure 1 is'a side view of the bottle showing the application of the stopper thereto, thestopper. adjusting means of the bottle being shown in front elevation. Fig.
2 is a view similarito Fig.1 showing the bottle adjusting means in end elevation.
of thebottle showing the adjusting means in a position to release or open the stopper.
The bottle 1 herein shown may be. of any suitable well known type, being preferably provided with a mouth or neck 2 such as is commonly employed upon beer or like A bail like fulcrum memthe neck of the bottle at a suitable point initslength, and preferably the bail is constructed of wire and provided.
with intertwisted securing terminals 4 and fulcrum eyes 5, the latter being disposed at one side of the axial line of the bottle so that the requisite adjustment of the stopper can be effected as will be understood.
of. wire and formed to whose trunnion likeportions 18 are extended into the eyes 5 as shown. From the eyes Patented ept-. 1914.
i The may behest suited for the purpose, and as lllustrated the said stopper is provided with aconvexbottom 7 which is covered with a j stopperfi may be constructed of por oelain'or any other suitable material which suitable gasket or-elastic element'S which is adapted-to yieldingly fit against'the' walls ofth'e mouth of thebottle when the closure is in a closed'position." The adjusting member of the stopper is preferably constructed of a'single length of suitable wire which is bent to form a portion 9 which extends through the horizontal aperture 10in the I stopper and to whichthe oppositely disposed bowed side arms 11 are connected.
These sidearms extend .down against the sides of the neck of the bottle and at 12 the K arms are oilsetdownwardly and inwardly in the direction of the neck where they are mounted in the eyes 13 of the locking member 14. From the offset portions the arms are extended down against the sides of the neck as at 15 to form depending side arms,
and said latter mentionedarms being thence bent upwardly and outwardly to opposite sides of the outer side faces of said arms to provide relativelybroad manipulating portions 16. The portions 16 are preferably formed by bending or twisting the portions 16 sufliciently to permit the said portions 16 to serve as guardsto positively prevent the accidental displacement of the ofiset portions 12 from.,the eyes 13 of said adjusting member. .The'adjusting member 14 is of the usual well known construction, being preferably constructed of a single length provide branches 17 13 of the adjusting member the wire is exas at 20 to present the-usual locking bail.
From the construction of the (device described, and incident to the fact that the eyes 13 of the lockingmember'are disposed tended outwardly as at 19 and then curved I substantially in axial 'alinernent with the I bottle and laterally or slightly to one side of the fulcrum en s of the lockingbail 19 it is evident that when the stopper is in a ciated that the manipulating portions '16 may be pressed outwardly by the hand of the operator and placed in positions remote member will be f it will be appreneck, a plurality of opposed eyes formed on the bail, a U-shaped member having its medial portion of the bottle and its ends depending adjacent the sides of the bottle,
tle and 'ofi set. in opposite directions at their extremities to against which the fingers of the operator are adapted to press, an adjusting member having its ends j ournaled in the eyes of the bail, eyes formed on the adjusting member of the stopper-engaging member passing loosely therethrough,v
and having the sides passing through the stopper said ends being adapted to bear against the sides ofthe b0tprovide bearing portions with the said sides offset at the points of passing through the eyes of the adjusting member, the said ad usting member being of engagement with the sides of the bottle to raise the stopper-engaging member and remove the stopper from closed position on thesaid bottle.- I y In testimony whereof we aflix our signatures in presence of two witnesses.
, ALBERT P. FULMER.
