snnnows ATTACHMENT non 'cH'AIRsQ Be it known that I, .ANTHONY J. ScHRon- DER, a citizen'of the United States, residing at Donaldsonville, inthe parish of .ASOGII- .sion and State ofLouisiana, have-invented certain new :anduseful Improvements in' Bellows Attachments for Chairs; and Ivdol hereby declare thev following-to be a: full,"

: bellows medium chairs, 4 whereby. the 4 1zedfor causing a con- I cooling-the occupant; "the strip Y supporting means for the two bellows, which may be readily, fitted to, or taken The securing means consists Patented se t. 1, 1914,
ofla strip t connect ed .to one side of the bellows and. havinga looped end 5 designed to engage and grip. the front'edge of the seat 2 in substantiallythe manner shown. The 3 isv adapted to be actuated by the motion of the chair through the of 'a' device which has constant engagement with the chair supporting surrocking -.face.":"S aid device comprises a strip-6 have'g-others skilled in mg a leg 7 secured'th'ereto, and fitted with a; roller 8 which is held normally in engagefloor, by a wei'ght A bracing'bar 10 crating mechanism of the second bellows, as
will be presently, explained. The second bellows 11 is secured to the back 12 of the rockerthrough the medium of thestrip 13 having a hooked. end 14 that fits over the head of the back12 as in the manner shown. The strip 13 is hingedly connected at 15 to 4', andthus provides a: connected from the chair. The hooked end 14 of the strip 13 (see Fig- 5) provides the means for fitting the device to a chair, or removing same therefrom, and to which end said strip 13 has its upper end 16 constructed to provide a recess for receiving the spring 17 whichengages with the end or head 18 of the hooked member 14 and holds the same under tension and in engagement with the back 12 of the chair.
In fitting the apparatus to the chair, the hook 5 is first placed to engage with the chair seat againstthe back of the chair, when the hook14 may be withdrawn and sprung into position, as will' be understood.
The means for actuating the second bellows 11 consists of ajbell-crank lever 19, having one arm 20 connecting with the bar 21 that in turn connects the leg bracing member 10, and the other arm 22 engages with the bar-23 thatis pivotally connected to the arm 24, secured to the back 25 of the bellows 11. Air is conducted from the bellows 3 and discharged at any convenient point in front of the occupant of the chair by a tube or pipe 26, which passes through the chair seat 2, as in the manner indicated in Figs. 1 and 3. In like manner, air is conducted from the bellows 11 by means of a 110 and the strip 13 then brought pipe 27 passing through the back of the chair and terminating at any convenient position adjacent the chair arm 28.
In the modified construction shown in Fig.
l, the arrangement is similar to that above described, except that the operative means for the second bellows consists of a curved arm 29 formed continuously with a strip secured to the under side of the bellows 3.
within a track provided by the box or casing 32, having a slotted opening 38 through which said arm 29 passes. Said box 32 is rigidlysecured to the back 3a of the bellows 11, as clearly illustrated in Fig. 4.
In the normal rocking motion of the chair, the bellows 3 is operated through the medium of the leg 7 and roller 8 as the chair rocks forward, and through the connecting mechanism the bellows 11 is expanded. The backward rocking motion of the chair causes 11 to be collapsed, due to the weight 9 holding the leg 7 constantly in engagement with the floor, or other surface, as illustrated in Figs. 2 and 4. a
I have illustrated and described preferred and satisfactory constructions, but changes could be made within the spirit and scope of my invention. I claim 1. The combination witha rocker having The free end of the curved arm 29 is provided with a roller 81, designed to work' the bellows 3 to be expanded and the bellows Copies of this patent may be obtained for five cents each, by addressing the Commissioner of Patents,

a seat and a back of an apparatus associated therewith, comprlslng a palr of hingedlyconnected strips adapted to detachably en-' gage with said seat and back, a bellows secured to the strip on said seat, a second bellows secured to the strip on said back, means for ellecting the operation of the first-named bellows, operative connections between said means and the second-named bellows, and means for conducting air from said bellows.
2. The combination with a rocker having a seat and a back of an apparatus associated therewith, comprising a pair of hingedlyconnected strips, one of said strips having a hooked end adapted to engage with the seat, and the other of said strips having a resiliently-connected hooked end adapted to engage with said back, a bellows secured to the strip on the seat, a second bellows secured to the strip on the back, a device carried by the first-named bellows adapted to efiiect the working thereof through the rocking motion of the chair, operative connections between said device and the second-named bellows, and means for conducting air from said bellows.
In testimony whereof, I afiix my signature, in presence of two witnesses.
