Be it known that I, LoUIsBLAND, citizen of the United States, lresiding at Schenecphotographs, andthe like, and has for one preventing the displacement of the holding' of its objects to simplify and improve the construction and increase the efficiency and utilityyof devices of this character.

Another object of the invention is to pro-- vide a simply constructed device which may be formed of any suitable material and `of any required size and which may be readily adapted without structural change to photographs and other pictures of varying sizes and proportions.

Another object of the invention isto provide a device of this character which may be quickly adjusted and attached to or removed from the picture and without injuring the latter.

Another object of the invention is to provide a device of this character wherein provision is made for securing the device to a wall or the like support by the same fastening devices whereby the frame is secured to the backing.

Another object of the invention is to provide a device of this character wherein provision is made for protecting the corners and devices.

. With these and other objects in view, the invention consists in certain novel features of construction as'hereafter shown and described, and then specifically pointed out in the claims, and in the drawings illustrative of thepreferred embodiment of the invention. i

The improved frame may be constructed of any suitable material and embodies four L-shaped overlapping Vmembers 10 provided with loops or keepers 11 which slidably cou- One of the keepers is attached to each of the'frame members and bears loosely around the adjacent member permittingthe latter to slide therethrough. By this simple means a frame is constructed which may be collapsed or reduced in size until the keepers engage against the L- lshaped member at their elbows, or extended until the keepers on each of the overlapping pairs of frame members closely engage at Thus the frame may be adjusted to any required size within the range of movement of the slidable members. It lwill be ynoted that the keepers maintain a balanced position relative to each other and to the frame members no matter to whatextent the frame members may be'adjusted. Thus the presence of the keepers does not detract from the appearance of the frame, but on the contrary increases the ornamental appearance. At the corners or elbows of the L-shaped members suitably constructed fastening devices are employed, such as thumb-tacks 12, to secure the frame members to a backing represented at 13. The head of the thumbtack portion of the device is covered by an ornamental shield 14 as shown in Fig. 1, which thus not only adds a finish to the frame to improve the appearance but likewise protects the thumb-tacks from accidental displacement and protects the corners of the frame. Each of the corner shields is formed from a single piece and comprises an outer approximately triangular body portion folded over along the edges of the sides of the triangular body portion, as shown in Fig. 5, to form flanges 14a embracing the frame members as shown. The corner members are thus retained in position by friction only, the rear or folded-over portions being clenched 7 upon the material of the frame members.

It will be seen that these corner pieces perform four functions. The triangular body portion which extends across the face of the frame forms an ornamental finish to the frame itself. The triangular body portion is of ornamental or embossed contigu- `'tion, can be inexpensively manufactured of ration so as to form a pocket housing entirely covering the head of the thumb tack or push pin 12, and thus when the corner piece is in place it prevents the accidental loosening of the thumb tack or push pin. The ornamental corner piece also tends to prevent anyone from mischievously Withdravving t-he thumb tack or push pin as the head of the pin is entirely concealed, and the insertion of a finger nail beneath the angular edge of the body of the corner piece would not act to Withdraw the pin. The flanges 1112L extend at right angles to each other and meet at the point Where the shank of the pin enters the material of the frame. As a consequence the edges of the flanges leta reinforce the material of the frame and prevent its being torn out, that is, prevent the perforation through which the shank of the push pin passes from becoming` enlarged by the Weight of the frame and picture.

In applying the improved device the frame members are adjusted to correspond to the picture to Which the frame is to be applied and a backing member 13 of Wood, heavypasteboard, or other material, cut to correspond to the outlines of the frame, and theframe securedv to the backing by forcing the tliimibtacks or other fasteners into the same aftery the photograph has been disposed in position to be covered, and held in place at its edges by the frame. If preferred the securing devices 12 may be of suiiicient length to project through the backing 13 to a sufficient extent to enter a Wall or like support indicated at 15, so that the frame and its contents may be temporarily supported in position.

The improved device is simple in construclight cardboard or other thin and light material, and readily adapted to prints, cuts, photographs, and other like articles.

The improved device Will be especially useful for displaying photographs, or other illustrations temporarily for advertising purposes, and may also be used as a permanent frame for suspension upon a Wall.

The keepers 11' may be of any suitable material, corresponding to the material of the frame, or stamped from material and polished, or otherwise ornamented as may be desired.

Having thus described the invention what is claimed as new is 1. The combination with a frame adapted to lie upon the face of the picture to be ff'amed, of push pins projecting through the corners of the frame and picture and adapted to engage a support, said pins having flat heads lying upon the face of the frame, and detachable guards, each guard embracing one corner of the frame, the body of the guard extending over and bearing against the head of a corresponding pin and holding it in place, the body of the guard being provided With portions angularly arranged With relation to each other and engaging over the adjacent edges of the corner of the frame to embrace the same.

2. A frame comprising a plurality of coacting frame members arranged toy overlap and slidably'engage, a headed pin extending through each of said fraite members and adapted to engage in a support, and guards embracing the corners of said frame members and bearing respectively over the heads of said pins.

3. A frame comprising a plurality of` coacting frame-members arranged to overlapl and slidably engage, a backing member of fixed dimensions, and a pin projecting from each of said frame members for engaging said backing member.

The combination with a frame7 of push pins projecting through the corners of the frame and adapted to engage a support, said pins having heads lying upon the face of the frame, and corner pieces 'forming guards and embracing each one corner of the frame, each corner piece comprising a triangular face portion enlarged at itsmiddle to form a cover for the head ofthe pin, and rear- Wardly and inwardly bent portions formed integral With the first named portion and embracing the side edges of the vframe and extending over the rear face thereof.

5. The combination With a frame, of a push pin extending through the frame at the corner thereof, and having a head bearing upon the outer face of the frame, and a guard comprising an approximately triangular body portion lying upon the face of the frame and bearing against and housing the head upon the pin, the material along the Whole extent of tivo sides of the body portion being bent over to form flanges vengaging beneath the sides of the corner of the frame, said flanges being less in Width than the distance between the push pin and the adjacent edge of the frame.
