Description

JAMES M. TAF'T, OF ARO'ADIA, WISCONSIN.
Leners Patent No. riesci, dans January a, lum;
' IMPROVEMENT IN MEATCHOPPERS AND VEGETABLESLICERS-p The Schedule referred to-ln these Letters Patent and making: part ofthe same.
To all whom it may concern:
. Bc it known that I, JAMES M. TAM", ef Arcadia, in the'county of Trempeleau and State of Wisconsin, have invented a new and valuable Improvement in Combined Meat-Ohoppei,Vegetable-Slicer and Grate'r,
and Ohurn; and I dohereby declare that-thc follow.
ing isa full, clear, and exact description of the construction and operation of the saine, reference being had to the annexed drawing'making' a part of this specification, and tothe letters and figures of refer-l ence marked thereon.
Figure l of the drawing is a representation of the meat-chopper in plan" view;
Figure 2 is a longitudinal vertical. section of' the same,
Figure 3 is a side view of the cam-wheel, which operates the feeding-rod Figure 4 is a longitudinal vertical section of my machine as a vegctable-grater;
' Figure 5' is the same of my machine as a churn-5" and Y Figure 6 is a longitudinal vertical section of the vegetable-cuttingl knife.
The nature of my invention consists in the construction and arrangement of a machine'which combines in it a frame for meat-chopper, a vegetableslicer and'grater, to be used interchangeably, as will be hereinafter fully set forth.
In order to'enable others skilled in the art to which my invention appertans to makeand use the same, I will, 'now proceed to describe its construction and operation, A v l A represents the frame of my machine, made of any suitable dimensions, and provided about the ceuter with a seniicircular or angular standard, B, from the upper central portion of -which a verticalvforked or slotted standard, O, projects upward.
'At the opposite end of the frame A from the gearwheel H, a forkedopening, Z, is left, which is bounded on each side by the longitudinal bars of the frame, and' in rear by the transverse bar V..
Notches a a are made in the inner corners of the ends of the longitudinal bars, and a'mortise, o' is also formed in the transverse bar V. Y
In the forked standard O is pivotedthe walkingbeam D, its pivot point being adjustable up and down in said standard b v inea-us of a series of holes, as shown rin tig. 2.
I One end of this beam is, by a pitman, E, connected with a wrist-pin, a, on a wheel, G, placed upon thc inner end of a shalt, b, which has its bearings in suit able boxes near one cud, ou top of the frame A.
On this shaft l) is a cog-wl1eel,hI-I, which gears with a similar wheel, I, on the crank-shaft d, and from which the walking-beam D thus receives its motion.
The other end of the'beain D is pivoted to or conin the usual manner for such cutter.
On this cutter is an eye', e, which is slipped over a vertical '-rod, f, attached to an upright frame, forming .part of the niain frame A, as shown in g..2.
which moves around a center-pin," and is provided with teeth around its outer periphery.
This block receives its rotarymotion by means of a feed-bar, 7i., moving in staples attached to one side of the frame A. y
One cud of this bar has as hook' or pawl, Il,-.which catches ,in the teeth 011 the block K, as shown in g. 1, and the other end has on its inner side a fork, which grasps a cani-dange, k, attached to the side of the cog-Wheel H.- Bythis means the block K is made to rotate around its. axis l'at the saine time as the. cutter J woikspeipeudicularly up and down.l
' Theforked. end of the feed-bar h isjointed, as shown, so that this end can be turned away from the cam k, and thus stop the motion of the meat-b` "ic, A spring att-ached to the frame throws the hoch s ci the feedbar against the meat-block.
The pivot-pin of the chopping-block 'K is seated in a T-shaped frame, Y, which support-s the block K.
The stem of this T-shaped frame is provided with a tenon, t, to tit in the mortise c', and with tenons t' t to fit in the notches a n' of the bars ofthe frame rI his frame Y is thus inade`removable, when it be cornes desirable to replace it with other devicesas the box L, now to he described. Ih'is bex L is provided with a tenon, s, to fit the mcrtise c', and there is attached to it a transverse supporting-bar, U, which is-arranged with tenons, to suit the notches n n.
M, which crosses thebcx, and has a bar, m, pivoted to it.
p To the lower end of this bar is attached theplunger or follower N.
the vegetables to be sliced or grated down on the movable bottoni.
vided with grooves, in which the movable bottom moves horizontally back and forth: This movable vegetables, or a cutter, I), for slicing the same.
It is, of course, understood that when the box L is plaeedin the. frame, the pitman E is unhooked the wrist-pin a, and the cutter J, iu addition n. che meat-block, is removed. lhe bar to which the guide.- rod f is attached isalso'remo red.
nected 'with the meat-cutter J, which is constructed lThe cnt-ter J works upon the revolving block K,.
'To the upper edge of this box is 'pivcted a lever,
The object of the lever M and plunger Nv is to hold y 'Ile loiveredgcs of the box L are, ou two sides, pro' A bottom consists either of a grater, O, i'or grating the l The groter O or the slicerrl?- receive their reciproeating motion from another pitman, E', now att-ached to the pin a, as shown in fig. 4.,
The Slicer l? consists of a slotted plate with the knife secured in said slot, as shown in fig. 6.-
When ths'machine is used an a churn, the box L, with its appurtenances, is removed leaving the end of the frame open.
The pitman E is again attached to the piu a, and
at the other end of the beam D is pivoted the dasher-V rod 1t, the churn S b'eng secured in the lower poi'- ton ofthe frame, as shown in fig. 5.
Having thus fully described my invention, What I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letbers Patent, is l 1. The frame A, constructed with notches n n,and transverse 'bar V, mortised at c', whenarranged as clesclibed, for the purpose of holding interchangeably fied.
i, and operating in connection with the cam4 la, for turning; the block K, substantially* as herein sot forth.
In testimony thatl claim the above I have hercnnto subscribed my name in the presence of two witlvVitnesses z GEO. D. DEWEY,
LYMAN Knnon the ment-chopper or grater, substantially as speci- 2. The jointed feeding-bar h., provided with lloolc
