JAMES H. MACDONALD, OF NEW HAVEN, CONNECTICUT.
SEW ER-INLET.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, J AMES H. MACDONALD, a citizen of the United States, residing at New Haven, in the county of New Haven and State of Connecticut, have invented a new and useful Improvement in Sewer-Inlets; and I do hereby declare the following,
,means for supporting the frame on the curb section; and the invention consists in. the construction hereinafter described and particularly recited in the claim.
In the drawings Figure 1 is a perspective view of a sewer inlet constructed in accordance with my invention. Fig. 2 is a perspective view of the curb member, detached. Fig. 3 is an edge view of the frame member, detached. Fig. 4 is a sectional view on the line 0;-b of Fig. 1. Fig. 5 is a sectional view on the line c-cZ of Fig. 1.
In carrying out my invention, I employ a curb section 2 of substantially usual construction having an inlet opening 3 and formed in its front wall with a downwardly extending flange 4:. Upon the face of this curb section and below the outlet opening 3 is a shelf or bridge 5 interrupted at intervals, herein shown as two, at which points the edge of the curb is slightly extended Specification of Letters Patent.

forming fingers 6 which have perforations 7 for the purpose as will hereinafter appear. The strainer frame 8 is of substantially usual construction, herein shown as rectangular, and adapted to receive a removable strainer 9. The inner edge 10 of this frame is adapted to rest upon the shelf or bridge 5,
and this edge is formed with downwardly extending lugs 11 corresponding to the fingers 6, and in those lugs are perforations 12 in line with the perforations 7 through which bolts 13 may be passed so as to lock the frame with the curb section; but it will be noted that because the frame rests upon the shelf or bridge 5, no special strain comes upon the bolts which merely hold the frame against upward movement.
The details of construction of the curb member and frame may be modified, the essential feature being the provision of the curb member with a shelf or bridge upon which the frame may rest.
A sewer inlet comprising a curb member and a frame, the curb member formed in its outer face with a shelf interrupted at intervals at which points downwardly projecting fingers are formed, the adjacent edge of the frame adapted to rest upon said shelf and formed with downwardly extending lugs in line with said fingers, and means extending through the lugs, and fingers for holding the parts together.
In testimony whereof, I have signed this specification in the presence of two subscribing witnesses.
JAMES H. MACDONALD.
