WILLIAM H. BONKEMEYER, OF RANDLEMAN, NORTH CAROLINA.
PLOW.
To all whom it may concern Be it known that I, WVILLIAM. 1-1. BON- Knmnrnn, a citizen of the United States, residing at Randleman, in the county of Bandolph, State of North Carolina, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in llows; and I do hereby declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same.
The present invention is directed to plows, and particularly to one adapted for plowing and breaking hard and dry soil.
The invention has for its object to so construct a device of this character that the plow shovels may be readily raised and lowered, and held in adjusted positions when plowing.
A further object of the invention is to provide means whereby the plow shovels may be forced into the earth by the operator without the necessity of leaving the seat.
With these and other objects in view, this invention resides in the novel features of construction, formation, combination and arrangement of parts to be hereinafter more fully described, claimed and illustrated in the accompanying drawing, in which Figure 1 is a top plan view of the device. Fig. 2 is a sectional View on line 22 of Fig. 1. Fig. 3 is a similar View on line 3-3 of Fig. 1. Fig. 4: is asimilar view on line 1 1 of Fig. 1. Fig. 5 is a rear elevation. Fig. 6 is a sectional view on line 6-6 of Fig. 5.
Referring to the drawing, the numeral 1 designates a casting, the upper surface of which is provided with spaced longitudinal ribs 2, betweenwhieh is bolted the beam 3. The rear end of the casting 1 is provided with a plurality of sleeves 1 which are engaged by the wheeled axle 5. The hangers 6 have their upper ends provided with eyes 7 which engage the axle 5, and their lower ends formed with perforations 8 for engagement by the rod 9 to which are pivotally connected the forward ends of the beams 10. The beams 10 are held in spaced relation by the block 11 through the forward end of which is passed the rod 9, which serve in connection with the bolts 12 to hold the block firmly in place.
Fixed to the upper surface of the block Specification of Letters Patent.
Application filed October 2, 1913.
Patented Aug. 4:, 1914..
Serial No. 793,018.
11 is an arch bar 13 to which is pivotally connected the rear end of the arm 1 1. The forward end of the arm 14: is pivotally connected to the lever 15 which has its lower end pivotally connected in the slot 16 formed. in the tongue 3. Mounted upon the tongue 3 are integrally formed rack plates 17 which are engaged by the spring pressed pawl 13 carried by the lever 15, said pawl being designed to hold the lever in different adjusted positions.
Bolted to the under surface of the casting 1 are the forward ends of the rods 19, the rear ends of which are provided with eyes .20 which engage the opposite ends of the rod 9, said rods serving to effectually brace the device and at the same time reduce the strain upon the hangers 6.
It will be noted that the forward ends of the beams 10 are bent outwardly so as to provide a space for the eyes 21 formed upon the rear ends of the rods 22 which are formed integral with the rods 19, said eyes engaging the rod 9, and serve in conjunction with the rods 19 to equalize the strain upon the rod 5), thereby eliminating the likelihood of breaking the block. The axle 5 held against rotation in the sleeves 1 by the set screws 23.
1 V hat is claimed is A plow of the class described, the combination with a casting, of a tongue having its rear end connected to the upper surface of the casting, sleeves formed integral with the rear end of the casting, a wheeled axle engaged in said sleeve, hangers connected to the axle, a rod supported by the hangers, beams having their forward ends pivotally connected to the rod and between the hangers, a block disposed between the beams and connected thereto, an arch bar connected to the block, a lever pivotally connected to the tongue, an arm pivotally connecting the arch bar and lever, rods connected to the opposite ends of said rod and having their forward ends bolted to the casting, as and for the purpose set forth.
In testimony whereof, I ailix my signature, in the presence of two witnesses.
