Letters Patent No. 110,610. dated December 27, 1870.
IMPROVEMENT IN COMPOUNDS FOR'TREATING LEATHER.
The Schedule referred to in these Letters Patent and making part of the same.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, SAMUEL S; VVALBANK, of Superior City, Douglass county, State of Wisconsin, have invented a. new and useful Compound or Mix-' ture for Leather; and I do hereby declare the following to be an exact description thereof, reference being had to the accompanying specified quantities of the ingredients that I use, as follows:
I take, of India crude rubber, two ounces;
Gutta-percha, two ounces.
Castor oil, two ounces.
Ncats-foot oil, four ounces.
Crude or refined petroleum, one gallon.
.Bichloride of mercury, sixty grains.
Ivory black, four ounces.
Prussia. blue, one-fourth of an ounce.
I dissolve the rubber andgutta-peroha. in the petroleum by boiling in a. close vessel, and then allowed to cool, when I add the bichloride of mercury; then the castor-gmd neat*-foot oils, and lastlythe ivorv black and Prussian blue.
I use this compound omnixture by applying itwith a. brush or piece of sponge to the leather, which makes .it not only water-pro0flbnt preserves it, and 1 therefore style it the liquid 'leather-preserver and waterproof 'blacking.
What I claim as my invention, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is
The combination of the ingredients, when mixed and used in the quantities and proportions as herein described, and for the purposes set forth.
