The present, invention relates to -i. new and improved oil, to be used in lieu of linseed oil in the mixing of paints, which oil is composed of the ingredients mixed together in or about the proportions as will be now stated: ten gallons of carbon oil; fifteen pounds of common clear resin four ounces of beeswax; four ouncesof litharge one ounce of gum oaoutc'hone; one gallon of spirits of turpentine.-
The carbon oil and resin, in the proportions above named, are first mixed together, by subjeeting them to heat until the resin has become fully and thoroughly dissolved, when to this compound, while hot, the beeswax andlitharge, in the proportions stated, are added, first, however, having been boiled together until of a dark brown color, and allowed to cool and settle. To the above the gum eaoutehouc is then added, first, however,-
dissolving it in the one gallon of spirits of turpentine, when the mixture or oil is ready foruse.
The oil made as above described can be used for all kinds ot paints the same as linseed oil, and when used forms a surface well adapted to exposure to the sun and atmospheric elements, as well as impervious to the water, and possessing as good a. body as paint formed from linseed oil.
We claim as new, and desire toseeure by Letters Patent- The oil made of the ingredients, mixed together in or about the proportions and in the manner substantially as described for the purpose specified.
