DISPENSING DEVICE.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented Aug. 4, 1914:.
Application filed January 23, 1914. Serial No. 813,851.
To all whom it may} concern:
'Be'it known that I, O'r'ro Kanonnn, a citizen of the United States, residlng at Canton, in the county of Stark and State of Ohio, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Dispensing Devices, of whichthe following is a specification.
My invention relates to dispensing devices in which a receptacle is provided to hold a quantity of the article or-articles designed to be removed from time to time in small quantities and it furtherconsists in providingtilting means so arranged and constructedthat by the tilting of such means a quantity of the article contained in the receptacle may be released.
The objects of the present invention are, first,'toprovide a device which will be sanitaryand convenient, and second, to form a device of the character described that Wlll be simple and of; few parts and can be openatedlin a convenient manner. These objects together with other objects readilyapparent to thoseskilled inthe art, I attain by the construction illustrated inthe accompanying drawings, although my invention may be embodied in a variety of other mechanical forms, j the construction illustrated bein chosen byway of example.
In'the accompanying drawings-Figure 1 is a perspective view. .Fig. 2 is a top view except vthatj the bowl .or'receptacle is removed. Fig. 3 is a section on line 33,
Fig. 2 with the addition of the lower por-' tion or part of the bowl orreceptacle in proper relativeposition. Fig. 4: is a view showing two tilting cups 1n proper IBlELt1OI1- shipv with reference to each other, showing one of the cupsfully tilted and another cup partially tilted. Fig. 5 is aview showing a portion of the combined bowl or receptacle holding or tilting ,cup' supporting frame.
Fig. 6 isa detached view of the detachable be easily reached and the movable parts conveniently operated. Upon the top or upper end of the standard or supportQ is attached the bowl or receptacle holding frame 3, which consists of an upright annular flange 4 and the arm 5. The annular flange 4; is formed of a size and shape to fit the bottom orlower part of the bowl or receptacle 6 as best illustrated in Fig. 3, wluch bowl or receptacle is held in fixed relative position with reference to its support by means of set screws 7 or their equivalents. I have illustrated set screws as one means for holdingthebowl or receptacle, but it will be understood that other means may be employed as the only object is to provide some mechanical means to so conmeet the bowlorreceptacle that it will not be easily or accidentally displaced.
The frame or spider 3 is located directly below the opening of the bowl or receptacle 6, said frame or spider being for the double purpose of supportingthe bowl or receptacle and also carrythe tiltingcups 8. In the drawings four tilting cups are shown which are substantially duplicates of each other,
the construction of each cup beingysubstan- I tially the sameand the operation being the same regardless of the number of cups employed andso far as the present invention is concerned a single cup 8 togetherwith its different parts may be employed or any number, reference being had to convenience in handling and due regard being given for the size of the device for the use for which it is intended. For the purpose of providing means for tilting the cup or cups they are provided with the lateral extending lugs 9 which are located upon opposite sides of the cups and in properalinement with reference a to each other, whereby suitable and proper pivotal connection is maintained between said cups and the supporting frame or spider. The frame or spider 3 is provided with the recesses 10, which recesses are preferably formed as shown in Fig. 5 and are so formed to allow the tilting cups 8 to be easilyremoved, by simply lifting the tilting cups with their bearings upward after which they can be easily removed for any purpose desired. To the frame or spider 3 are pivotally attached the blades 11, the number of blades 11 corresponding with the number ofcups 8 or inother words each. cup whether Queer any desired number of cups are employed" 7 are to have in connection therewith a blade 11, which blade-orblades serve the purpose;
I 5; It willbe understood that the. instant,
invention can be applied is to provide-means whereby crackers can :be. obtained by any number ofindividualswithout'in: any way handling crackers, except those used by the of preventing the contents of the bowl or receptacle 6 from droppin from the bowl or receptacle during the time the cups are beingtilted in either direction. For the purpose of assisting in'actuating the blades 11 or turning said blades upon their hinges,
said blades are provided withthe fingers 12,- which. fingers are formed of such a length that they will extend over the open portion orvportions of the cups 8 and lie upontheinneredge of saidcup and upon thetop of the frame orspider. 3 as best illustrated in Fig.
the cups are tiltedthe fingers '12 will belifted upward by the upward movement of the portion or portions of the cup or cups upon which. the fingers lie, thereby turning the blade or blades upon theirpi'votal points. The fingers 12 .also serve thepurpose ofiagitating the contents of the bowl and prevent- .g 'anyclogging or choking;
One, of the many uses to which the present individual by which arrangement a sanitary-device is provided and one that is con venient, economical and perfectly sanitary. Theqoperationof the invention when put to use as above described is substantially as follows: If used in restaurants and "like placesrthe device occupiesa position similar.
I to anordinaryjopen top, cracker bowl, but. it
iS well understood that regardless to the number of persons desiring crackers each and all-canand generally do take from the bowl intheirflhands, the number of crackers wanted, butin the present instance each individual, desiring crackers tilts a tilting.
cup, the tilting. of which delivers in his open hand the crackers contained insaid tilting up; In; order to tilt the, cuppressure is brought, upon the downward extending flange. 13, thereby tilting the cup and practically turningthe same into substantially the position shown on the left hand side/of Fig.
4; after the handis removed the cup autoferentcompartmentsyby which arrangement different articles can be placed in the bowl or receptacle without becoming ,miXed, and
the particular article desired easily selected.
When it is desired to place difierent articles in j the bowl a detachable partition provided, which may be of the form shown, in
Fig. 6, which may consist of aeent r'bar la and the blades15- arranged as shown ,said
blades regardless ottheir' number being-so formed thatthey will provide separate and.
distinct compartments in the bowl or receptacle. It will be understood that the -'number of partitions may be variedand the:
same object accomplished as for instance if only two compartments, are desired a single partition extending entirely across the bowl" will be sufiicient.
In additionto the flanges .l the tilting;- cupsmay be provided with pins 16. located j near the top of the cups and by a downward pressure upon the pinor pins atilting action desired released.
In order that the contents'o'f the bowl may;
be seen at all times'I prefer to formthe'bowl or receptacle of glass. for the. following.
reasons: First, when formed of glass the bowl will be less liable-to becomecontaminated, and second, it will be transparent, thereby, exposing to view the quantity and will be imparted to the cups and the article contents'of whatever material or mat'erials maybe located in the.bowl orreceptaolel c The receptacle 6 should be providedwith i suitable cover 17, sothat the articles'conw tained inv the receptacle will be'protected;
from dust and dirt and at the same time be.
inclosed insuch a manner that the arti clesg contained in the receptacle mu s'ttbetaken from the bottom of the. receptacle, which re ,ceptacle is open uponits bottom portio'nand: is so formed to allow theidispen'singcups to be filled from time totime which filling'isl brought about by the material in, the re; .ceptacle' dropping into the dispensing cup or; u j t. Having fully described myinv'ent-ionwhat I claim as new anddesireltogsecure by ters Patent,
'1. In a dispens ing device, the combination-- 9 of a ,receptacle,1a frame adaptedto' support f and-hold said receptacle, a pivoted cupcare ried by'theframe a blade adapted to @1ose a portion of the cup,'-s'aid.blade provided: with a. finger, saidgfingerr adapted for-Econ} tactupon the open rim'ofthecup;
2. In a dispensing device 015 he haraetr'i described, a receptacle, a7frameradaptedfltox support said receptacle, v a cup .pivotallyl at;
tached to the receptacle supporting frame, a
blade formed of a size less than the top :of the pivoted cup'and a finger connected to said blade and normally eXtended-over-the open portion of the cup. if 8.;In a dispensing-device of thecharacter described, a receptacle, a frame adapted to support said receptacle, a cup pivotally at tached to the receptacle supportingframe, a blade formed-of a size flessthan the top of the pivoted cup anda finger connected to said blade and normally extended over the open portion of the cup, said finger and blade adapted to be actuated by the pivotal movement of the cup.
4. In a dispensing device of the character described, an open bottomed receptacle, a frame adapted to support and hold said receptacle, a series of dispensingcups carried by the receptacle supporting frame, said dis pensing cups provided with flanges upon their bottom or under sides, and blades hinged to the receptacle supporting frame and means for actuating said blades.
5. In a dispensing device of the character described, the combination of an open bottom receptacle, a support adapted to hold said receptacle in relatively fixed position with reference to its support, a series of movable receptacles adapted to receive and hold portions of the contents of the rece tacle and means for partially closing sald movable cups, and means for actuating said closing means. a
6. In a dispensing device, the combination of a receptacle, a support for said receptacle, a series of open topped dispensing cups pivotally connected to the receptacle support, blades provided withactuatingfingers, said blades adapted to normally close portions of the open topped dispensing cups.
