INVENTOR Paul {gnatofj M? GAG/ ATTORNEY j ummf STA'li ES PAUL Eemvrorn'or VSASKATOON, SASKATCHEWAN, cannon.
SUGAR-DISPENSER.
' J Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented Dec. 7, 1920.
Application filed May'21, 191;). Serial No. 298,598.
' T all" whom it may concern.
, Province ofSaskatchewan,
'Be it known that I, PAUL EGNATOFF, a-
citizen of Russia, residing at Saskatoon, and Dominion of Canada, haveinvented certain new and useful Improvements in'Sugar-Dispensers, of which the following is aspecification.
This invention relates to improvements in apparatus for dispensing sugar, particularly adapted for the use of hotels, restaurants and the like eating places. I
The principal object of the invention is to provide an apparatus in which uniform quantities of sugar may be dispensed directly' into a cup containing a beverage, without the use of a spoon. Y
A further object is to provide a dispensing device having a tight fitting cover so as to prevent contamination of the sugar con tained therein, by the entrance of a spoon, and also preventing flies and like insects, as Well as dust from entering the interior.
A still further object is to provide means whereby an exact uniform quantity ofsugar is delivered at each operation of the device in an easy and convenient manner.
These and other like objects are attained by the novel construction and combination of parts hereinafter described, and shown face as a table.
in the accompanying drawings, forming a material part of this disclosure, and
which Figure 1 is'a sideelevational View showing a su ar container made in accordance with the invention, parts being broken away in order to disclose the interior construction, and Fig. 2 is a bottom plan view of the same. Referring to the drawings, a hollow bellshaped base is indicated by the numeral 10,
the same having a beaded edge 11 adapted to be. placed upon any, relatively level sur- The narrow portion 12 of the base element is formed with a bowl shaped container 14, having screw threads 15 formed upon its upper edge adapted to receive the cover plate '16, in an obvious manner, it being understood that the cover plate 16 may be readily removed when it is desired to refill the contents of the container.
The bottom or inner wall 18 of the container is provided with' a single circular this openin bein alinable with another opening 20, f0
rme in the upper element 21,
of a fork shaped structure, joined by a nar- Y row curved element 22, with the lower .fork 23, these forks passing'into-the hollow base 10 through OPBIHIIOS a ro riatel formed therethrough' pp p y Another opening 24 passes through the v the opening 19, in the.sugar bowl base, by
pairs of laterally extending arms 27 secured to the mner sides of the reduced portion-12. of the hollow base element.
This fork is normally held in a forward position due to the pull ofa coiled tension spring 29, one end of which is attached to the lower. fork element 23 near its outer end, while the other end of the spring is secured to the inner surface of the base element 10 in any appropriate manner.
A handle 30 is secured to the outer surface "of the main container 14 by which the apparatus may be readily maneuvered and pivotally engaged to it by the pin 31 is a lever 32, having a bent arm '33, formed with an eye 34:, engaging with the arcuate connecting elements 22 of the forks, the bent portion 35 of the lever 32 being receptive of the finger of an operator so that the same may be drawn back, causing a retraction of the fork elements 21 and 23 so that the opening 20 normally registering with the opening 19, is moved outwardly, the upper surface of thesolid fork 21 preventing the passage of sugar from the main container, while the measuring chamber/26, being in a fixed position, permits the opening 25 to be alined with the opening 24 in the lower fork element 23,.the'reby allowing its conaction of the spring 29.
1 Having thus described my invention what opening 19 through which sugar may pass, mally drawn into a closed position by the ters Patent, is;
Q I-cIaini as new and desire to secure by 'Let- In a su r dis 7 r, thecombination with a bowa hol ow baseextending therebelow, and'an 'irnperforate cover removably engaged with the top of said bowl, said bowl having an opemng'. in its lower wall,
said fork bars having an opening a inable with the opening in Said container and the lower of said bars having able withthe opening 1n sai measurui chamber, a sprin attached to the lower 0 said fork bars'a a'pted to hold them in a forward position, a handle permanently engaged with the bowl, a lever pivoted to said. handle," sai d lever having a bent portion containing an eye, and operative connections between -sa1d fork bars and said eye;
In testimony-whereof I have affixed my signature.
