No. 110,525. Patented 'Dec. 27, 1870;!

N. PETERS. Pholo-Litiwgnphen Wuhiflslnn. ac.
UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
TOLBERT G. WILDER, OF CAMDEN, MISSISSIPPI.
IMPROVEMENT IN SUBSOlL-PLOWS.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 110,525, dated December 27, 1870.
To all whom it may concern Be it known that I, TOLBERT G. WILDER, of Camden, in the county of Madison and State of Mississippi, have invented a new and useful Improvement in Subsoil-Plow; and I do hereby declare that the following is a full, clear, and exact description thereof, which will enable others skilled in the art to make and usethe same, reference being had to the accompanying drawing, forming a part of this specification.
The figure is a side view of a subsoil-plow to which my improvement has been attached.
This invention relates to improvement in subsoil-plows; and consists in arranging a pivoted brace with a plow of peculiar construction, so that the latter may be made to work at greater or lesser depth by simply adjusting the brace in the rear slot of the beam, the plow-standard being also so arranged as to be adjustable in forward slot of said beam, at different angles in a vertical plane, as and for the purpose hereinafter set forth.
A is the beam, B are the handles, 0 is the standard, and D is the foot, of the subsoilplow. E is the adjustable lever, the lower end of which enters a slot or recess in the heel of the foot D, and is pivoted to said foot, as shown in the figure.
The upper part of the lever E passes through a slot in the rear end of the beam A, and is secured in place, when adjusted, by two wedgekeys, F, passed through holes in the said lever, the one above and the other below the said beam, slotted plates Gr being interposed between the said wedge-keys F and the upper and lower sides of the beam A, to prevent the said keys from wearing or cutting the said beam.
Several holes are formed in the lever E for the reception of the wedge-keys F, so that by changing the position of said keys the point of the plow may be lowered to cause the plow to work deeper in the ground,,or raised to cause it to work shallower. The lever E also braces and supports the shoe D, causing the plow to work steadier, making it stronger and of easier draft.
I am aware that it is not new to provide a pivoted brace for a plow, in front or rear of the same, nor to so arrange such brace as to be adjustable vertically, and hence to such' arrangement I lay no claim.
Havlng thus described my invention, what I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-
The herein-described subsoil-plow, consisting essentially of the beam A, standard 0,
share and heel-piece D, rigidly attached thereto, and pivoted and adjustable brace E, pins F F, and plates G G, when arranged as specified.
