Description
G. W-O'R'DINGHAM. LAUNDRY ENVELOP.
APPLICATION FILED DEC. 17, 1912.
. fication.
- GEORGE WORDINGHAM, 0F MILWAUKEE, WISCONSIN.
' LAUNDRY-ENVELOIP.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented July 28,1914.
, Application filed December 17, 1912. SeriaI No. 737,298.'
T 0 all whom it may concern Be it known that I, Gnonen WORDINGHAM,
citizen of the United States, residing at Milwaukee, in the county of Miggaukee and State of Wisconsin, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Laundry- Envelops, of which the following is a speci This invention relates to laundry envelops,
or more specifically to an envelop or wrapper designed to receive handkerchiefs, s'mall articles of table linen, napkins, and the like,
after they have been laundried, the object of the invention being to protect the laundried article from becoming soiled prior to deliv- Another aim ofthe invention is, to so construct the envelop or wrapper that it mayaccommodate one or any reasonable number of laundried articles, and will hold these.
articles firmly in place and in flat condition. Another aim of the invention is to provide an envelop or wrapper so constructed and arranged that the articles contained therein may be inspected Without the necessity of removing them therefrom.
A still further object of the invention is to I provide a wrapper ,or envelop of the type mentioned which, at the time of its sealing, may be caused'to secu rely bind the articles disposed ther withinregardless of the thickness of the contents.
For a full understanding of the invention reference is to be had to the following description and accompanying drawing, in
- which Figure l "is aperspective View of the laundry envelop or wrapper embodying the presentinv'entiom Figs. 2, 3 and 4 are edgeviews of the wrapper illustrating the manner in which it may be arranged to accommodate laundried articles varying in thick- .ness or number. Fig. 5 is a (perspective view of the wrapper in open con ition. 1
Corresponding and like parts are referred to in the followin description and indicated in all the views 0 the; drawings by the. same reference characters.
onion skin paper which is ordinarily transarent or translucent. In connectingthe ack and front, the front 2 is attached at one edge portion to the under side of the drawing it will be seen that the front 2 is of a width considerably greater than the back 1. Inasmuch as handkerchiefs and other slmilar articles, when laundried, are folded to substantially square form, the back 1- is preferably square and of such dimensions as toconform to the widthof the folded article which is to be disposed within the wrapper. On the other hand, the front 2, being of greaterwidth than the back 1, is substantially oblong in form. The narrow strip 4, of adhesive, is applied upon the under side of the back 1 at that edge opposite the edge to which the front 2 is initially and permanently attached, and it will be understood that after the laundried article has been disposed upon the back 1, the front 2 may be laid over the same and drawn tightly around located, the strip having been reviously moistened. The underlying portion of the front is then pressed against theunder face of the back 1 and will be secured thereto by the adhesive 4. p
By referring to. Figs. 2, 3 and 4 of the drawings it will be apparent that any reasonable number of folded laundried articles of the proper size may be arranged within the wrapper and protected thereby, and it will furt r be apparent that due to the fact that the front is thin and flexible and may be drawn tightly over the articles disposed against the back 1 the articles will be securely held against loss, although the wrapper is open at its top and bottom.
If desired, the representation of a tied ribbon may be printed upon the front 2, as in-. dicated at 5, so as to give to the wrapper the appearance of a tied package.
Having thus described the invention what is claimed as new is A wrapper for laundried articles consisting of a relatively stifi back having a narrow zone of adhesive applied to its obverse side at each lateral edge thereof, the said lateral edges being parallel, and a relatively that edge of the back at which the strip 4 is thin flexible front initially and permanently through the medium of the other zone of secured atone edge to the obverse side of the adhesive. v back through the medium of one of the said In testimony whereof I aflix my signature zones of adhesive, the said front being of a in presence of two witnesses.
5 Width considerably greater than the Width of GEORGE WORDINGHAMJ [11. s.]
the back and being adapted to have a greater Witnesses: or less area of its surplus Width folded to lie AMY VVORDINGHAM, beneath the back and to be secured thereto ELLA TnmoI-ILER.
