License.
T0 all whom t may concern Be it known that I, EUNICE E. CHAPMAN, a citizen of the VUnited States, residing at Petersburg, in the county of Lincoln and State of Tennessee, have invented certain new and useful improvements in Churns; and l do hereby declare the following to be a full, clear, and eXact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, and to the letters and figures 0f reference marked thereon, which form a part of this specification.
This invention relates to new and useful improvements in churns and the object in view is to produce a simple and efficient apparatus of this nature comprising a rotary dasher, adjustable to adapt the same for various sized receptacles and having` wings so arranged that an upward violent agitation may be given the cream.
The invention comprises various details of construction and combinations and arrangements of parts which will be hereinafter fully described, shown in the accompanying drawings and then specifically defined in the appended claim.
I illustrate my invention in the accompanying drawings, in which:
Figure l is a perspective view of my improved churn. F ig. 2 .is a side elevation. Fig. 3 is a rear elevation, and Fig. 4 is a perspective view of a part of the invention.
Reference now being had to the details of the drawings by letter, A designates a churn body or receptacle mounted upon the base B.
E is a standard rising from the base and having braces C. Said standard is provided with a slot- F near its upper end and a cap E is tted over the slotted top of the standard. A hanger, designated by letter H, is movable within said slot and designed to be held in an adjusted position by means 0f a cam lever K. Said hanger has arms L Specification of Letters Patent.

in which the worm shaft N is journaled, having a socket N at its lower end adapted to receive the dasher shaft O, which lat-ter is held in place by means of the thumb screw P. The hanger is provided with a yoke R, the arms of which have journaled therein a canlr shaft S and to which a worm wheel T is Hired and which is in gear with the worm shaft N. rlhe wings W atl the lower end of the dasher are so positioned that., when the dasher is rotating, an upward current will be caused to the cream, throwing' it violently against the upper portion of the receptacle. thus thoroughly agitating the same in the churning process.
By the provision of a hanger made as shown and described, it will be noted that the saine may be raised and lowered to adapt the dasher to rotate atl different elevations as may be desired, the parts being held in adjusted positions by means of the cam levers as shown.
lWhat i claim to be new is:
A churn comprising a support having a vert-ical slot therein, a hanger with a shank portion extending through and movable within said slot, a forked cam member pivoted to the end of said shank portion and straddling the projecting end thereof and adapted to engage said standard on either side of the slot, said hanger having curved arms extending in pairs at right angles to cach other and having apertures in the ends forming bearings, a dash-er driving shaft journaled in the bearings in the ends of one set of arms and a driving-shaft journaled in the other arms, a wheel upon the driving shaft and having gear connection with the dasher driving shaft, as set forth..
ln testimony whereof l hereunto affix my signature in presence of two witnesses.
EUNlCE E. CHAPMAN.
illitnesses:
