To all whom it may concern Be it known that I, RALPH M. HYDE, a citizen of the United'States, and a resident of lvestfield, in the county of Chautauqua and State of New York, have made certain new and useful Improvements in Furnace- Damper Regulators, of which the following is a specification.
My invention relates to improvements in furnace damper regulators, and it consists in the combinations, constructions, and arrangements herein described and claimed.
An object of my invention is to provide means for automatically regulating the dampers on furnaces used in vapor or low pressure steam heating systems.
A further object is to provide means for regulating the dampers, said means comprising a device of the gasometer type with a novel device for preventing the forcing of the water in the gasometer out of the same by the steam pressure, and also, for preventing the entrance of air into the gasometer when the steam pressure has lowered.
Other objects and advantages will appear in the following specification and the novel features of the device will be particularly pointed out in the appended claims.
My invention is illustrated in the accom panying drawings forming part of this application in which Figure 1 is a perspective view of the regulator, and Fig. 2 is a sectidnal view thereof. In carrying out my invention I provide an exterior tank or casing 1 which is provided with a top 2 having a central opening 3. t
The top 2 is provided with a central boss 45. The upper side of the boss is surfaced as shown at 5, while the lower side of the boss 4 is also surfaced or ground off, as shown On the interior of the stationary tank or casing 1 is a movable bell-shaped member 2. This is provided with a boss 7 which has a ground surface 8. The boss threaded to receive a rod 9 which is arranged to pass through the opening 3 and isprovided with a threaded end 9 arranged to receive a cap 10. -The cap 10'is' provided with a ground surface 11.
A steam pipe 12 leading from the boiler (not shown) connects with a T 13 to which is connected a pipe 14 that extends upwardly into the casing 1. The upper end of the pipe 14: is open. A pipe 15 is threaded into the T 18 and forms a standard for the gasometer device, being provided with a base 16 as shown in Fig. 1. v H a The cap 10 has itegrallyextendiiig 17 to which are attached links 18 conneeting with a semicircular yoke 19. This yoke has an in'tegral lever arm 20 pivoted at 21 onanj arm 22 which is secured to the outer casing 1 by means of a band or split ring 23.

The main feature of my inventio'ri the part which I consider novel is the .means for preventing the forcing of the water but f the casing 1. It will be observed that when the bell 2 has risen to its up er- 1 1mm the surfaces 8 and 6 will come in contact;
These surfaces are ground true and they form a steam -tight joint. The pressure of the steam on the interior of the hell 2 holds ioc these parts securely together and therefore a there is no danger of the water 31 in the casing 1- being forced outwardly between the bell and the casing and thence out through the opening 3. This would certainly occur if the steam pressure was high enough unless this means is provided for preventing it. On the other hand when the inner bell has descended to its lowest position due to the lowering of the steam pressure the ground surface 11 of the cap 10 will come in contact with the ground surface 5 of the boss 4 and will prevent any further entrance of air into the device. The cap 10 therefore acts as an effectual air seal and thus insures the proper working of the system which would be materially interfered with should the air be permitted to enter after the bell has reached its lowest point. t
I claim 1. In a draft regulator for steam boilers, an outer casing, a top therefor provided with a central boss having an opening therethrough, said boss extending above the outer surface of the top and below the inner surface of the top, the upper and lower faces of. the boss being surfaced or ground, a bellshaped member disposed within said outer casing and being provided with a central boss at its top having an upper face ground to form a tight fit with the lower face of the first named boss, a rod carried'by the boss on said bell-shaped member and arranged to extend through the opening in the first named boss, a cap carried at the upper end of said rod having a lower surface ground to permit a tight fit against the upper surface ofsaid first named boss, a lever, flexible connections between said lever and the dampers of the furnace, and connections between said cap and said lever for operating the lever through the movement of the cap.

In a draft regulator for steam boilers, an 7 outer casing, a top therefor provided with a central boss havin an opening there-- through,'said boss extending above the outer surface ofthe top and below the inner surface of the top, the upper and lower faces of the boss being ground, a bell-shaped member disposed within said outer casing and being provided with a central boss at its top having an upper face ground to form a tight fit with the lower face of the first named'boss, a rodcarried by the boss on "said bell-shaped member and arranged to an outer casing, a top therefor provided with a central boss having an opening therethrough, sald boss extending above the outer surface of the top and below the inner surg face of the top, the upper and lower faces of the boss being ground, a bell-shaped member disposed within said outer casing and being provided with a central boss at its top having an upper face ground to form a tight fit with the lower face of the first named boss, a rod carried by the boss on said bellshaped member and arranged to extend through the opening in the first named boss, a cap carried at the upper end of said rod having a lower surface ground to permit a tight fit against the upper surface of said first named boss, a lever, flexible connections between said lever and the dampers of the furnace, connections between said cap and said lever for operating the lever through the movement of the cap, said last named connections comprising integral arms secured to said cap, an integral yoke connected with one end of said lever, links connecting the ends of said arms with said yoke, and a support carried by the outer casing, said lever being pivotally connected to said suport. p 4:.
