Description

G. W. RUBUSH. FOR WASHING DISHES, CUPS, AND GUTLERY.
V APPLICATION FILED SEPT. 3, 1913. v 1,104,888 Patented July 21, 1914*.
MACHINE xii GEORGE W. RUBUFH, OF WASHINGTON, DISTRICT OF COLUMBIA.
MACHINE FOR WASHING DISHES, CUPS, AND CUTLERY.
icense.
To all whom it may concern Be it known that I, GEORGE W'. RUBUsH, a citizen of the United States, residing at Vashingtou, in the District of Columbia, have invented a new and useful lmphovement in Machines for ashing Dishes, Cups, and Cutlery, of which the following is a specification, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, making a part of this specification, in Whi0l1- Figure 1 is a plan or top view of my de- Vice showing the double tanks or compart ments. Fig. 2 is a central longitudinal section. Fig. 3 is a section'on line 3-3, Fig. 1, receptacle C. Fig. 4 is a section on line 4-4, Fig. 1, brackets in tank A. Fig. 5 is a detail section showing a plate being washed. Fig. 6 is a detail section showing the process of dryingthe plates. Fig. 7 is a detail perspective of the washing and dry ing mechanism. Fig. 8 is a sectional detail of the side rack or receptacle H-H for holding dishes.
Similar letters of reference indicate corresponding parts in the several figures.
My invention has relation to improvements in dish washing machines and it has for its object to improve, -sin1 .lify and cheapen the cost of construction of this class of machines, over the prior state of the art,
while at the same time, the washing and drying ofthe dishes and like articles is expedited, thereby. saving labor and time to the operator.
With these and other objects'in view, my invention consist in the novel construction and combination of parts as will be hereinafter more in detail described, and the asserted novelty particularly pointed out'in the specification and claims.
Referring to the drawings, Fig. 1, A and B designate double tanks or compartments for holding hot or cold water. Tank A is located at right angles with tank or compartment B, water being drawn into these tanks from any source of upply such for instance, as the house pipes, and may be drawn from the spigots over the kitchen sink, or they may be filled by pouring water into the tanks or compartments 'by hand. These tanks or compartments may be formed singly and be secured together by any suitable fastening means.
' The letter C in Fig. 1 desi nates a dish or other article drying receptac e located at the rear end of tank B for the reception of Specification of Letters Patent.
Application filed September 3, 1913. Serial No. 7'88,02G.
dishes and other articles to be dried. The
small letters a-a, a -a designate brackets having one end secured to a wooden or metal frame. These brackets if preferred may he taken out and replaced again in. the same position on each side of the tank or compartment A. The opposite ends of these rods a-a, 01 -05 Figs. 1 and 2, are free to allow the dishes to be withdrawn from between them through the medium of the sponge carrying arm, 6, 1, 2, 5, 6, a
The operator may easily remove the dishe from the brackets to tank B and receptacle C.
In order to lighten and facilitate the movements of the machine, a vertically positioncd frame 5 is provided having its lower ends secured to the frame holdingthe tank or compartment 1 about midway the length of said tank, while the top rod of the vertically positioned frame has mounted thereon a hollow cylinder or roller Z the rod forming the axle thereof. The belt or chain 0. passes over the roller 5 The l0W1 '8I1(lS of this belt consist of light springs e having hooked ends secured to the driving rod E, Figs. 1 and 2 by the eyes a. I
D-D designate two inverted ti-shaped partitions spanning the walls between the tank or compartments A, B and C, which separates them one from the other serving the purpose through the medium of the conveyer of passing up the dishes and other articles therein into the tank B or receptacle C. l
E designates a driving rod, which is provided at the forward end with a cross arm e, Figs. 1, 2, 5, 6, 7, and is securely fastened to said driving rod. By this combination a variety of movements can he made when supported by the swinging frame and belt.
By a varietyrof movements the dishes are moved from the brackets a-a a -a to tank B, washed and rinsed and then conveyed to receptacle 0 and there sponged and dried. The sponge carrying cross arni and its work- ,ings is thus fully described: 6 designates the axle or shaft securely fastened to the driving rod or conveyer E, .6 designates a washing sponge fastened to shaft :4. same in operationin tank B, Fig. 5. e the drying sponge, fastened to the other end of said shaft or axle c, Fig. 1. The samein operation in receptacle C, t e desig nates a dri') in an to catch all surplus lP r and also spaced from the arm e When operating the device, the edges of said dishes are gripped by the bifurcated finls lgers and arm a.
Said arm passes under the edges and lower rims of said dishes and holds them securely by the notched clamp on'upper forward end, 6 Figs. 1, 2, 5, 6, 7, thereby removing dishes from the brackets to tank B and receptacle C at the will of the operator.
When ready for operation proceed as follows: Place the dishes in. the. brackets a-a. a-a pour hot water over the dishes until the stains are removed, rinse with warm Water, remove the dishes from the brackets by means of the driving rod E, and its at tachments.
The cleansing process in tank B consists in sponging the dishes byvertioally adjusting the sponge carrying arm e in tank B,
Figs. 1,2 and 5 and removing said dishes by means of hooks or engaging teeth e, Figs. 1, 2 and 7, over the V-shaped partition D to receptacle C, a mop or sponge cZ-cZ being secured to the incline partition D to dry the under sections of the dishes as shown in Figs. 2 and 6. T he faces of the dishes are spongcd and dried by sponge 6 in receptacle C. The dishes are retained at C U, Figs. 1, 2, 3, while the drying process is in operation. After the drying by a slight movement the dishes will gravitate to either side of the ll-shaped receptacle G, having the inclined bottom 0 0 Figs. 1 and In the construction of this machine we have two methods for cleansing the dishes, the first method as above explained; the second method is as follows: The operator can grasp and remove dishes from the brackets aa a to tank B and hold said dishes carried by said noises and turn them so that the front and baok can be washed with the sponge e and sponged dry with sponge 6 After cleans ing remove said dishes to receptacle C or H. The dryer or rack H-H extends parallel with tank B, on either side and is securely attached and supported with oblique brace rods 7L1 k and parallel rods H H which extends longitudinally, and at the lower edge of said rack or receptacle. The curved base or trough iih retains the lower edges of'said dishes at an angle during the drying process, thereby forming a convenient an useful dryer or receptacle for dishes, during and after the drying process.
Fig. 8 shows the'dish' 'n the rack or receptacle HH. The figure also shows .a perspective view of the oblique brace rods 79-411 The curved base or trough, with.
the lower edge of said dishes retained at an incline h-h, thereby completing the dish washing, rinsing and drying process. the cleansing process of cutlery, cups, etc. All hereinbefore described and shown in the drawings and specifications. Allfcombined, arranged and operated substantially as and for the urposes herein set forth and fully describe i I hereby reserve theright to make any changes desiredwithin the scope of my invention. U l I What I claim as newanddesire toseouro by Letters Patent is- Thd combination with atank, ofa sup; i porting frame, a roller journaled upon said frame, a driving rod, aresilient belt over said roller and secured at its free ends to said rod, 2. cross armsecured at a point adjacent to the end of -said rod, forked means sponges carried by the opposite ends of said arm, and a pan centrally fixed to said arm Also' arm and cooperating with the end of said rod for conveying dlSllGSy
