To all whom. it may concern Be it known that I, DAVID Gnonen CAR- ROLL, a citizen of the United States, residing at Atlanta, in the county of Fulton and State of Georgia, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Sash-Weights, of which the following is a specification,

This invention relates to new and useful improvements in sash weights and more particularly to a sectional sash weight, the object of the invention being to provide a'sectional weight made u of articulated units readily associated and dis-associated, where-- by the same is adapted to the counter-balancing of window sashes of various sizes by merely adding or by subtracting individual units.

Another object of the invention is the provision of a sectional sash weight which will possess advantages in points of efficiency and durability, is inexpensive to manufacture and, at the same time, is simple and durable in construction and operation.

With these and other objects in view, the invention consists in the novel features of construction, combination and arrangement of partsas will be hereinafter referred to and more particularly pointed out in the specification and claim.

In the accompanying drawing forming a part of this application, Figure 1 is a side elevation illustrating two sections about to be connected. Fig. 2 is a side elevation taken from the opposite side shown in Fig. 1, showing the sections in their locked position. Fig. 3 is a similar view taken from the opposite side thereof; and Fig. l is a longitudinal sectional view.

lln carrying out my invention, I prefer to provide a number of sections, each of which comprises an elongated bodylformed of metal or any other desirable material and formed at each end of the body 1, are the alined ears 2 and 2. The ears 2 are provided with a central opening 3, one end of which is formed elongated and tapers at each end to a point, as shown at 4;. Communicating with the opening 3, upon each side of the ear 2 are the grooves 5, which are adapted to receive the sash cords which are attached to the upper end of the weight. '1, opposite the ear 2', is provided with an outwardly projecting lug 6 having an elongated head 7 formed integral therewith, said lug tapering toward each end into a point, as'shown at 8, which are adapted to be inserted through the tapering points of the elongated portion of the opening 3.

From this, it will be seen that in connecting the various numbers of the sections together, the headed lug 6 is adapted to be inserted through the "opening 3, so that the head. 7 will be disposed within the elongated. portion thereof and when the sections are disposed in longitudinal alinement,

the head 7 will be arranged transversely across the elongated portion of the openings to prevent the removal of the lug.

In the general construction of my device, I prefer to have the elongated portions of the openings 3, which are formed within one end of each of the sections extending transversely of the sections and, in forming the headed lug, at the opposite end of each section, I prefer to have the head 7 of the lug 6 extending longitudinally of the sections, so that when two or more sections are united, the head 7 of the lug will, when the sections are in their operating positions, extend transversely across the elongated portions of the opening, so as to prevent the removal of the same until so desired.

In connecting two or more sections of my improved sash plate, it is first necessary to extend one of the sections at right angles to the other, as clearlv illustrated in Fig. 1, so that the head 7 and the elongated portion of the opening 3 will be brought into alinement and permit the head 7 to be readily inserted therethrough. After the head 7 has been inserted through the elongated portion of the opening, the two sections are then arranged in longitudinal alinement, the head 7 extending transversely across the opening. It will be noted that the end of each of the sections are beveled, as shown at 9, whereby turning movement of the same will be readily permitted.

It will be apparent from the accompanying drawings, taken in connection with the description given above, that I have provided a simple and durable sash weight which is constructed of comparatively few parts and is particularly made up of units readily associated and dis-associated, whereby the same is adapted to the counter-bah ancing of window sashes of varying sizes, merely by adding or subtracting individual sections. It will also be apparent that the device is extremely simple and durable in construction and can be manufactured at a comparatively low cost.
