ARTICLE-HOLDER.

To all whom it may concern:

Be it known that I, JOHN B. MUELLER, a citizen of the United States, residing at Pittsburgh, in the county of Allegheny and State of Pennsylvania, have invented a new and useful Improvement in Article-Holders, of which the following is a full, clear, and exact description, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, forming part of this specification, in which Figure l is a perspective view of one form of holder embodying my invention. Fig. 2 is a vertical longitudinal section through the same, showing, in dotted lines, the holding yoke in its raised position. Fig. 3 is a side elevation of the yoke. Fig. 4 is a side elevation of one form of tag which can be secured to the yoke, and Fig. 5 is a plan view of a modified form of holder.

This invention relates to article holders and is designed to provide a cheap and efiicient device of this character for holding shoe-laces, laces, ribbons, ties or other articles of this general character.

The object of my invention is to provide a holder which can readily be secured to the wall or any suitable place, and in which articles of various kinds can be held, so that one or more of the articles can be withdrawn without disturbing the others.

Another object of my invention is to provide a device of this character which can readily be opened to insert articles.

The precise nature of my invention will be best understood by reference to the accompanying drawings, it being premised, however, that changes may be made in the details of construction without departing from the spirit and scope of my invention, as defined in the appended claims.

Referring to the accompanying drawings, the numeral 2 designates the body portion which is provided with projections 3 having screw holes for securing the device to any convenient place. The body is pro vided with through openings at each end, the Opening 4 being a straight bore, while the diameter of the opening, 5 is increased at the central portion, as indicated at 6; and 7 are recesses extending in a lateral direction from the enlarged portion 6 of the opening.

tively. The member 10 is considerably longer than the member 9, and extending through an opening in the lower end of the member 10 is a pin 11. Surrounding the member 10 within the enlarged portion 6 of the opening 5 is a spring 12, which. bears against the upper end of said enlarged portion and the pin 11, and is designed to hold the horizontal member of the yoke in contact with the body 2 or with the article or articles held in the holder.

If desired I may secure to a horizontal member of the yoke 8 a tab 13 within which T may secure a card containing the price and size of the article or any other data. This device may be formed of a stamping such as shown in Fig. 4:, which is then bent upon itself on the horizontal portion of the yoke 8.

In Fig. 5 I have shown a device comprising a body portion having a plurality of holders 2*, each of which is precisely the same as the article holder shown in Figs. 1 and 2.

IVhen it is desired to place articles in the holder the yoke is raised to the dotted line position, shown in Fig. 2, and is then swun about the axis of the member 10 so that the pin 11 will be seated in the recesses 7 and the pin will retain the holder in its elevated position. The articles to be retained by the yoke are then placed on the body portion and the yoke is swung about the axis of the member 10 until the pin 11 passes beyond the edge of the recessed portion and the spring 12 will then move the yoke. downwardly against the articles which will be held between the yoke and the body portion.

If the device is used for holding shoe-laces or neck-ties, one or more can be withdrawn without disturbing the others, but if it is used for lace or embroidery or any article in hank form, the hank can be removed by raising the yoke and swinging it about the axis of the member 10.

The advantages of my invention result from the provision of an article holder which can readily be opened for inserting the articles, and which is normally held closed by means of a spring, further from the provision of means for clamping the article in position on the holder.

I claim:

1. An article holder comprising a body portion, a yoke having a horizontal cross bar and two arms of different lengths, the body portion having openings for receiving said arms, a horizontal portion between said openings adapted to cooperate With the cross bar to form. a clamp and closure for the article or articles to be held thereby, said yoke being adapted to rotate about the axis of the longer arm to permit articles to be placed on the body portion between the openings, and a spring surrounding the longer arm and adapted to move the cross bar toward the body portion; substantially as described.

2. An article holder comprising a body portion, a yoke having a cross bar and two arms of different lengths, there being an opening in the body portion in which the longer arm is arranged to reciprocate and rotate, a pin extending through the longer arm, a spring surrounding said arms and engaging the pin for moving the yoke toward the body portion, there being a recess in the body portion for the reception of the pin to retain the yoke in an elevated position when it is raised and rotated; substantially as described.
