THOMAS 1?. WHITE, OF ST. PAUL, MINNESOTA.
STOVEPIPE-FASTENER.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented July 14, 1914:.
Application filed August 11, 1913. Serial No. 784,110.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, THOMAS F. WHITE, a citizen of the United States, residing at St. Paul, in the county of Ramsey and State of Minnesota, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Stovepipe-Fasten ers, of which the following is a specification.
My invention relates to improvements in means for fastening stove pipes in a supporting wall, its object being to provide improvements in connection with the stove pipe to allow it to be easily forced through or out of the flue opening but which may be actuated to firmly lock the pipe in position.
To this end the invention consists in the features of construction, combination, and arrangement of parts hereinafter described and claimed.
In the accompanying drawings forming part of this specification, Figure 1 shows a chimney, broken away and with a stove pipe supported therein by my improvements; and Fig. 2 is a longitudinal section of one end of a stove pipe fitted with my features of improvement.
Referring to the drawings, A represents a section of stove pipe.
13 represents dogs having pivotal support upon the chimney end of the stove pipe section as by being mounted upon a Wire 2 secured in the end of the pipe. The inner ends of the dogs are connected by rods 3 with screws at extending through longitudinal slots 5 in the stove pipe and being threaded into thumb nuts 6 arranged upon the outer face of the pipe. The screws 4: intermediate of the pipe and thumb nuts pass through the outwardly extending annular flange 7 of the collar 8. Thus as the screws l are moved back and forth in the slots 5, the collar 8 will be similarly moved upon the stove pipe, as shown in dotted lines in Fig. 2.
By referring to Fig. 2, it will be seen that when the parts are moved to the dotted line position shown, the dogs B will be turned, through the medium of the rods 3, into forwardly extending position, with the outer ends of the dogs standing inside the extended inner face of the pipe. In this position of the parts the dog supporting end of the stove pipe may be forced through the thimble 9 secured within the pipe opening of the chimney 10. "When the pipe has been forced through the thimble the collar 8 will be carried inwardly against the outer face of the chimney which will cause the dogs to be turned outwardly by the connecting rods 8. The collar 8 may then be fastened against the face of the chimney by screwing the thumb nuts inwardly upon the screws 4c to hold the screws locked against movement within the slots 5. The dogs B when turned outward as shown in full line position will be in contact with the inner face of the chimney 10 to cooperate with the collar 8 in holding the stove pipe in position. I thus secure a construction which is very easily placed into and removed from the thimble, and which may be secured in the thimble without danger of accidental displacement, etc.
I claim as my invention:
1. In combination with a stove pipe section, dogs fulcrumed. upon one end of said section, a collar slidable upon said section, locking members carried by said collar and slidably supported upon said stove pipe section, and connections between said locking members and the inner ends of said dogs, whereby said locking members may be adjusted'to lock said collar in adjusted positions as well as to hold said dogs in adjusted positions upon their fulcrums.
2. In combination with a stove pipe section, dogs fulcrumed upon one end of said section, a collar slidable upon said section, locking members connected with said collar comprising screws extending through longitudinal slots in said stove pipe section, thumb nuts carried by said screws, and connections between said screws and the inner ends of said dogs.
ln testimony whereof I afliX my signature in presence of two witnesses.
THOMAS F. WHITE.
