Description

.anni @da WARRENG. SLATE'R, OF HART, MICHIGAN.
Letters Patent No. 110,299, dated December zo, 187e.
IMPROVEMENT IN PRESSES FCR FORMING SOLES FOR PACKSB The Schedule referred to in these Letters Patent and making part of the same.
To "whom it 'may concern:
Be it known that I,.WARREN G. SLATER, of Hart,
' in the count-y of Oceana and State of Michigan, have invented anew and useful Improvement in Press for forming Bottoms for Boot and Shoe-Packs; and I do declare that the following is a true and accurate description thereof, reference being had` to the accompanying drawing and to the letters of reference marked thereon and being a part of this speeication, in which- Figure 1 is a perspective view of my device.
Figure 2 etached views of the parts..
Like letters indicate like parts in each figure. l
The nature of this invention relates to the construction of a cheap and, durable press in which to form the bottoms of boot and shoe-packs.
The invention consists in a press of peculiar constructiomvso arranged as to be adjustable, to be worked rapidly, of small cost, and that will be very durable.
ln order that those skilled in theart may know how to construct and operate my device, I will now proceed to describe its various parts.
In the accompanying drawing- A represents a block, which may be of' hard wood if deemed preferable, split or sawn in two in the center of its width, upon the lines a.
Through this block is cut a hole, B, corresponding in shape to the bottom of a mans foot.
A bolt, C, provided with nuts, @secures the halves of the block together, while by loosening or tightening said bolts the halves maybe made to recede from or approach each other.
D is a follower, of the shape of the hole B, and somewhat smaller. v
The leather from which the pack-bottom is to be formed being suitably prepared, the operator 'places the leather'over the hole B, and then lays the follower D onto the leather, when a smart blow with a hammer drives the follower, with the leather, into the hole, where theysbould remain until the leather assumes the shape of the follower and hole.
, Should one piece of leather be thickerthan canje admitted into the hole around the follower, the nuts' t A A should be loosened enough to admit ita.L If thinner, tightening said nuts will prevent-difficulty iu forming a smooth bottom. y l
That I claim as myinvention, and desire to secure by Letters Batent, is n The combination of the divided block A provided with the opening B, the bolts C, and thumb nuts b, with the follower D, when constructed andvarranged substantially as described and shown, for the purpose set forth.
