FOLDING CRIB.
Specification of Letters Patent. p t t gfi Application filed February 12, .1912. Serial No. 677,049.
[0 all whom it may concern:
le it known that I, F nann H. FARRING- To)", a citizen of the United States, residing at Roanoke, in the county of Randolph and State of Alabama, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Folding Cribs, of which the following is a specification.
My invention relates to an improvement in cribs. and more particularly to that class of inventions in which the head and foot boards are capable of being swung upon or over the spring frame for forming a small compass whereby the entire crib when in a collapsed condition can be moved beneath the regulation size bed, so that it will be out of the way when not in use.
The invention consists in certain novel features in. the construction and the combination of parts which willbe hereinafter described and pointed out in the claim.
In the accompanying drawings, Figure l is a perspective view of the crib; Fig. 2 is a view showing the crib in a collapsed condition; Fig. 3 is an end view; and Fig. l is an enlarged detail view, partly in section, showing the connection between the spring frame represent the head and foot boards and C- is the spring frame. Arms 1, l, are rigidly connected to the frames of the headand foot boards'and are pivotally connected to the spring frame C. These arms being rigidly connected to the posts will form a means for holding the spring frame in its normal position and they will also form the media m whereby the spring frame can be drawn from its lowered posit-ion, or when the bed is in a collapsed condition, to an elevated position when the bed is in an assembled position, as is clearly shown in Fig. l. Latches 2 are connected to the spring frame and engage the rail .3 of the head and foot boards for fastening the A and 1) spring frame in position. Connected to each post of the head and foot boards are sprir g bars 4 which are provided with lugs 5, which enter openings 6 in the sides of the spring frame C. These bars 4 are sufficiently resilient to be moved toward the posts to release the spring from engagement therewith when it is desired to lower the spring frame and collapse the bed but when it is desired to hold the spring frame rigidly, the lugs are caused to enter the openings 6 in the spring frame. When the spring frame is being drawn to its elevated posit-ion it will engage the lower portion of the bar-.4 and will travel along the bar until the opening (3 in the spring frame comes into registry with the lug 5 whereupon the lug 3 of each bar will enter an opening ("3 in the spring frame securely locking the sprlng frame against movement. Uprights T are connected to the spring frame and extend below and above the frame. The lower ends of the standards or uprights are. provided with casters 8 upon which the spring frame is supported when'lowered and the upper ends of the uprights support the spring sides or gates 8. The gates are provided with latches 9 which engage studs 10 on the posts of the head and foot boards for holding the sides in an upright position. When it is desired to collapse the crib or bed in the position shown in Fig. 2, the latches are disengaged from the rails 3 and the spring bars L are disengaged from the spring frame so that by swinging one of the boards onto the spring frame after, of course, the sides or gates have been swung upon the spring frame, one end of the spring frame will be lowered so as to rest upon the upright 7 then the other board is swung upon the spring frame lowering the frame onto the standards at its other end so that the crib can then be moved beneath a large or standard bed or to any other convenient point.
In the foregoing. as will be seen, I have provided means whereby the bed frame can be raised or lowered and held in position by the arms 1 which are connected to the bed or spring frame and the head and foot boards, one end of the arms being rigidly connected to a post of the head and foot boards. In this way the sprin frame must be held against sagging and will remain in its normal position, and to insure against any possible movement and for rigidly connecting the spring frame and head and foot boards together, latches '2 are provided which connect the spring frame to the lower rails of the head and foot boards and the additional means which are the spring bars 4 which engage the spring frame.
' Having fully described my invention, what I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is Y The combination with a spring-frame, up-
rights connected thereto, sides hinged to the upper ends of the uprights, and cash ers on In testinwny whereof I afiix my signatura the lower ends thereoflfheaid and foot-boards in the presence, of two Witnesses.
hinged to the springrame, means for (19 Y Y tncfiably connecting the upper edge 01 the FRAA K FARRINGTOI" sides with the hem? and foot-boards, and Witnesses:
means for automatically locking the head D. B. LONG,
and foot-boards to the spring-frame. L. BRUMBELOE.
