As arranged, ,the 1i yJain.*andplatform .tilt as a unit aboutitlie axis :oitherod 2.said axisbeing. eccentric gravity ofthe lbin, and. its contents for both the closed and open (or .the bin (Fig. The binvis .provided with a it, niay be readily inanipulated.
Mnspendedby. hinges or .loops Z, 7, about a rear horizontal r'od 8 traversing .the upper portions of they series of, posts l is a lid 9, lthe-sides andrcar wall of the. lid overbin. soas to make The roof oi' the licl. has a double slope forward, .there being ot the forward point contiguousvto, and
angle, bracket l0 which strikes the rear wall of the bin when the latter is tilted forward, thus arresting further movement of the bin l.in .that direction.. When the bin is tilted .back .under the lid, the rear wall of the bin :strikes the rearwall'of the lid below its axis of suspension,
-thereby forcing the front end of the lid againstthe bin so that a positive andjettfective closure isv always insured.
.Details illustrated but not alluded to are .common inthe art. and require no descriptioni in the, present connection.
Ilieoperation is obvionszs-FW'hen the bin is:-tilted.backward under the lid (Fig. 3) the latter will close effectively over the bin, vthe Acenter of gravity of theI bin being rearward of the axisof oscillation thereof, so that it positively remains in said closed position until disturbed or dislodged there- As the bin is tilted forward or outward, the lid will rise slightly (see dotted position of parts Figs. 3) lbut will again set* ile to its normal position by the time the bin is arrested by the lng or bracket 10 (Fig. S). With the. bin thustilted to operi position, it is apparent that its center of gravity will shift, being now forward of the axis of oscillation of the bin, 'so that the bin reniains in such open or tilted position until forced back under the lid. The sloping roof of the lid allows for the outward or forward tilting of the bin without binding, it being clear from Fig. 3, that the outer face of the front wall? of the bin is practically out of lcontact with the root` of the lid, the latter pper edge osaid resting 'merely on the@ fore, the closing of front wall. As stated 'lhe bin driven the lid` firmly against it7 thus :ring a flirtfpioof and inseet-proof joint Jen the parte. The free edge of the lid preterably reinforced by a bead b as unthe bin is tilted outwardly, the latter can be readily removed from its platform should thin be desired.
fit will be seen (Fig. 3) that when the bin tilted outwardly approximately one-half its opening is exposed, which isample for ini'ifoeee ole inserting the hand (and scoop ill an).T be need) to get at the contente of toe bin.
rThe term bin is intended' of course, to cover any container or receptacle whatsoever, and should be understood in its broadi-St Sense.
Having described my invention, what I 4diain'i iS- l. 'ln combination with a lid hinged to Swing about a fixed axis, a bin rotatable about a lined axis and having its open end engaging the lid, and operating to lift the iid with an oscillation of the bin away Jfrom the 'a of ythe lid7 and means on the bin for raging the rear of the lid at a point be: f the arie oi the lid to force the free olA the iid into positive engagement l 1e bin with the oscillation of, the latter to ile nornial position under the lid.
ln con'ibination with a lid hinged to swing; about a lixcd horizontal axis disposed ai: one end of the lid,l Said lid having Side will@ and a ron-"ll sloping downuf'ardly and outwardly 'from said axis'7 a bin having an i lop and oscillating along' a bottom Monial anis positioned eccentrically to le renter oi" lgravity ot' the bin, the top of ine bin being `permanently engaged by the iid and operating lo tilt outwardly from under tlie lid to expose a Section ot' thei dei-stood in the art. By lifting the lid when v opening of the lid, whereby the exis of oscil lation of the lid remains eccenti s1: to the center ot gravity thereof,A suoh center shifting to a point on the side of the axis opposite to that occupied fora closed position of the bin and means on the lid for arresting the outward tilting movement of the bin.
3. ln combination with a bin 'open at the lop, a hinge rod disposed along the bottom of the bin to one side of the center of ravity thereof, a rod dispoeed rearward ang above and parallel to the rst rod, a lid having its rear end hinged to the last mentioned rod and having side Walle and a roof en aging the top of the bin, the roof of said li Slo ingr downwardly and outwardly from t e hinge axis of the lid7 the bin being tiltable outward from under the lid to expose a section ol its open end, and means carried by the roof ot the lid adapted to engage the rear wall ot the bin land thereby 'arrest the Same in its outward tilting movement, the conter of gravity of the bin Shifting from one Side of the axis ot oscillation` thereof to the opposite side with a tilting ot the bin from closed to open position.
4. In combination with a lid having side and rear Walls and a sloping top or roof, and hinged about the rear Wall, a bin oscilloting;v about an axis eccentric to the center of gravity thereof and in permanent contact with the lid. the rear wall of the bin boing adapted to impingjc against the inner tace ot the real' wall ot thc lid and thereby torre the front of the lid inlo positivo engagon'ient wilb the bin.
ln testimony whereof l nllix my signalurc, in presence oltwo witnesses.
