To all whom it may concern:

Be it known that we, JACOB MEIBAOH, a citizen of the United States, and LoUIs MEI- EACH, a subject of the Emperor of Austria- Hungary, both residents of the city of New York, borough of Manhattan, in the county and State of New York, have invented a new and Improved Ironing-Board Attachment for Tables, of which the following is a full, clear, and exact description.

This invention relates to ironing board attachments for kitchen cabinets or other tables,

Among the objects of the invention is to provide a table of the character indicated which is neat and compact, occupying a minimum amount of space and being provided with any usual or desirable drawers or the like for the storage of kitchen utensils or cooking supplies.

A further object of the invention is to provide an ironing board of peculiar construction and arrangement, the same being housed within or beneath the table top when out of use, leaving the table top smooth and clear for the usual purposes of the table and which, when in position for laundrying, a portion of the table top will be lifted and turned back, causing the ironing board to be elevated and there supported in steady, stable position.

The foregoing and other objects of the invention will hereinafter be more fully set forth and claimed and illustrated in the drawings forming a part of this specification in which like characters of reference indicate corresponding parts in all the views, and in which- Figure 1 is a front elevation of a table made in accordance with this invention, parts being broken away, and indicating the ironing board in its elevated operative position in full lines, and showing the adaptability for lifting one end of the ironing board for the application of a skirt or the like thereto; and Fig. 2 is a vertical transverse section on the line 2-2 of Fig. 1.

The several parts of the device may be made of any suitable materials, and the relative sizes and proportions, as well as the general design of the mechanism, may be varied to a considerable extent without departing from the spirit of the invention hereinafter more fully set forth and specifically claimed.

Referring more particularly to the drawings for a specific description of the inven tion, we show at 10 a table of any suitable or approved design, and shown as being supported upon legs 11. The table body is shown as comprising numerous compartments such as a flour tray 12 providing a support 13 for a rolling pin 14: adjacent the front panel 15'thereof, any suitable number of drawers 16, and a rolling board 17. The table top includes a fixed panel 18, a hinged drop leaf 19 at the rear edge of the table, and a panel 20 hinged at 21 so as to lie against the front edge of the fixed panel 18 when the top is closed, as shown in dotted lines in Fig. 2, and said panel 20 being adapted to swing upwardly and rearwardly so as to lie against the upper surface of the fixed panel 18 when the ironing board 22 is in use. Said ironing board is movable vertically from beneath the normal position of the panel 20 into the operative position shown in full lines in Figs. 1 and 2. Any suitable means may be used to hoist said ironing board and support it in laundrying position. For this purpose we prefer the following devices: A plurality of arms 23, secured to the movable panel 20 at 23 at one end, are provided at their other end with curved extensions 24 which bear against the bottom of the ironing board while the movable panel 20 approaches the top surface of the fixed panel 18 whereby the panel moving around its hinges 21 acts together with the arms 23 as a lever of the first class, thereby positively lifting the board as'shown. One end of the board is adapted to be supported by a support 25 adapted to slide vertically in a keeper 26 secured at 26 to the inner face of one end 27 ofthe table. body. A binding screw 28 extends through said end 27 into cooperation with a nut 28 on the inner face of the slide 25, said-screw passing through a slot 25' of said slide. The upper end of the slide is hinged at 29 to the under surface of the ironing board, whereby the ironing board may tilt as much as desired around the upper end of the slide. The opposite end of the ironing board has hinged to it at 30 a support 31 adapted in normal position to extend downwardly and lie against the inner face of the table body end 32, and when the ironing board is elevated the lower end of said support is seated in a notch or groove 32 at the upper end of said last mentioned table end, as shown in dotted. lines in Fig. 1.

The last mentioned end of the ironing board being free to be lifted around the hinge 29, said support 31 may readily be introduced into said groove for the purpose indicated.

The slide 25 when secured in position by means of a screw 28 and the support 31 when seated in the groove, constitute the principal means for supporting the ironing board in'its operative position. The weight of the panel 20, however, assists in supporting as well as in elevating the ironing board. The curved extensions 2% of the arms 23 swing through arcs of circles, as indicated in dotted lines in Fig. 2, and in so doing pass between the ends of the table body and a pair of bars 33 extending from the front to the rear corners of the table body. For ordinary purposes, for instance, the ironing board will be supported as shown in full lines, but for the application thereto of a skirt or the like, one end thereof may be elevated as shown in dotted lines, the sup port 31 also being adapted to swing outward so as to not obstruct the passage of the garment thereover, and the board may then be dropped to its intended position for operatio We provide also a sleeve board 34 slidable in keepers 35 along the lower surface of the board 22 and adapted to be projected longitudinally from the end adjacent the support 31, the supporting means for the main ironing board serving in this connection to support the sleeve board as well.

Having thus described our invention, we claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent 1. The combination of an article of furniture having a fixed top panel and a movable panel hinged along one edge thereof and adapted to swing over against the top of the fixed panel, an ironing board independently of said top panels and located normally below the top panel, and means carried by said movable top panel normally remote from the ironing board adapted to bear against the bottom of the ironing board for hoisting it into operative position when the movable panel is swung over as specified.

The herein described kitchen table comprising a fixed top panel, a movable panel hinged thereto along one edge and adapted to fold up over and upon the top of the fixed panel, an ironing board located normally below the table top and adapted to be lifted bodily from such position, a pair of arms secured to the movable top panel and caused to swing through arcs of circles when said movable panel is swung from normal to open position, said arms acting against the lower surface of the ironing board to hoist it into ironing position, and auxiliary means to support the ironing board in the position to which it is lifted by said arms.

The combination with a kitchen cabinet table including a fiat top having a fixed and a movable panel, of an ironing board located normally below said top, means extending from said movable top panel and adapted to lift the ironing board bodily and vertically, and supporting means for said ironing board to maintain it in its hoisted position, said supporting means including a slide secured at one end to the ironing board, a keeper along which the other end of said slide operates, hand operated means to secure the slide and keeper in fixed position, and a supporting member for the other end of the ironing board cooperating with the end of the table, substantially as set forth.

The combination with a kitchen cabinet table including a hinged top panel, of an ironing board housed normally below the closed top, means carried by the movable panel serving to hoist the ironing board bodily vertically into laundrying position, a slide hinged to one end of the ironing board, means to secure said slide in its elevated position at one end of the table, and a support hinged to the other end of the board and adapted to be seated in a groove in the upper edge of the adjacent end of the table.
