C, the screw.
.D 1), the friction-rollers.
E, the coil spring.
d u, the pins holdin;l` the upper ends of the braces.
b, the. pin holding the middle ol the braces.
b b', .the recesses in the sides ot' the cheek pieces, hrwhich the ends ot' the braces arc inserted and the coiled spring `is placed, acting freely upon the ends of the braces.
c is the hole in one of the braces, made with notches on opposite sides to receive the pin b, which has corresponding projectious to fit the-notches in c.
The operation of this arrangement is as follows,
WZ: i
'lhe notches aud projections are at such au angle with the liuc ot'the.bracesthat, when they are actingv together, the projections of the pin lic across t-he hole c, away from the notches,l and prevent t-he separation. To remove the parts, the braces must be brought lto such au angle that the notches aud'projections are coincident, and can pass oat from the hole c.
1u ordinary screws a. neck is formed near the head and a piu or other equivalentis inserted through the cheek, thus unitingr them, and yet permit the screw to be turned. In my invention the coiled spring, act` ing upouthc ends ot' the braces, causes the cheeks to separate whenever the screw is reversed.
What l claim as my invention, and desire to secure b v Letters atent, is
l. the coiled spring E, in combination with the ends ot` the braces B B', substantially as and for the purpose described.
