. Figure 'i is en este? side view ol the hnproved hinge, epphed upon e poxton of e and of e cese-ment jemh; Fig. .2 is e tudnel seotione view, s'nhstehtely on the me 2-2 in 3 is e transverse sectional view suhstentlsy on the line 3 3 in Fig. l, end Fig. 4 is ksngtudinel sectioned view of details of thehnge, substantially on the line bei in Fig. l.
In t Le thmvings, 5 indicates e leef of the hinge oomplsing s, 'Het metelho pete of e suitable Width ond having pefee side edges that one return bent, 'thus providing two smihu hook enges 5f t? et' 1 the hinge leef 5 formed. of s 'g oef niet enge 5b to., ffheh terminates 1 5 "het is hentfn e the leef 5 end to he hed 'to eeoompeny-- the Hanges 5 and the body of seid hinge teef es is oeeljv shown in Fig. 3.. f The inseted; end of the demping plete 6 is plein or devoid of any etee pto-jeeton, out et the othe;n end theeo'f, e, ng-ht enguely bent flange 6' isfomned, thet notes in e bent tooth 6b, this flange end tooth beng'smiel to the enge and tooth on the Leef 5, and thevteeth 5G bprojgeot tovvec each other peferahy in the same piene.
Upon the hinge leaf 5, new its end eppoM Vsite from that bearing the enge 5b, two pershe. erorated eers 5d are onfied, pretextehy lnteggel with the bod by Cutting out portions tlnereoE end, 'bending the sense outwal'dly in opposite direotons se es to Leave seid portions free on all edges thereof except Where they are connected with the hinge leef, es is'oeerly shown n 4;' tor one een` Pvoted neez its ends between the eers 5d, s ebowed levee 7*, seid ends being s-temhy ettened end; perphemlly rounded, and et o suitable point neer the center ol the pivots o,
e tmnsverse lockable nut block 8 ispvoted upon the spaced memhels of seid leve-r and between them es shown inhg. l et 0L.
A threaded perforation is omed centrally through the nut block 8 across its longtudu nel exis. v
An integral lug 9 s omed o1 secured on the demping plete 6 at its tensvese center and angule junction of the flange 6a, seid lug hevnga pelfoation therethough.
An. edjustlng serew 1G is employed, end

` heng epped apen c; performed so to eoeot f' ,t ne oose-:qeeepton of e piede het CIT of the door easement l2 which is secured. upon the. ears d', but works freely in the ears d.
Upon the pintle bolt 12, a coiled spring 13 is mounted,'and at the ends of said spring, arms e-'are formed, that project in opposite directions and rest respectively upon thel hinge leaf 5 and hinge leaf 11, the torsion of.
the spring being adapted for returning the hinge leal to the plane of the hinge leaf' after the door A has been swung open andthen released.
The distance between the centers of the journals a on the ends of the nut block 8 and the pivots a. which loosely connect the ends of the lever 7 with the ears 5d, is suchthat when the lever is rocked into a vertical osi- -tion or approaching it, the nut vblock w1 l be hinge-leaf, comprising the leaf 5 and the clamping late 6, removably upon `the jamb or vertica membeji` B of4 a door easement, the lever 7 is iirst/ rocked outward and the screw 10 slackened, which will ermit the the flanges 5b and 6 may be disposed vin contact with the opposite vertical edges-of the member B. The lever 7 is now folded iiat upon the hinge-leaf 5, and by the connection oi' the screw 10 with the lug 9,' this adjustment of the lever will shorten the distance between the teeth 5c and 6b, the lever having a toggle action which will forcibly embed these teeth into the ed es of the stile or jamb to which they are to he connected. 1
ln order to reinforce the bite of the teeth 5C 6*?, and take up any slight looseness thatv might result from j ar due to the irnpingementA of the door u on the easement, the' adjusting screw 10 s o'uld beturned in a direction to exert a pull upon thenut block 8 rwhich will further draw u on the clamping plate 6 and hinge leaf 5, anl revent any possible accidental release of t e hinge c/onnection with the door easement.
lt is to be understood that in service, the hin e is to be duplicated, oras many-be enp oyed as isneeessary for the proper swinging support of the door.
bviously, if desired, xthe hinges may be released for a removal of the door by manipulation of the screw l0 and the lever 7. This is very advantageous for the connection of a temporary door, such as a screen door with a door easement, as it permits an attachment of the door therewith without marri'ng the easement by screw holes therein, and enables the instant removal of the door without the use 'of tools.
Having thus described our invention, we claim as new and desire to secure by Letters- Patent.
l. .ln a hinge, the; combination with a hinge-leaf,V comprising two members, one slidable on the other, each member having a tooth that may be oppositely embedded in a wooden strip or the like, and means to secure the teeth embedded, of -a co-acting hinge-leaf jointed at one end upon an end of one meinber of the longitudinally adjustable'l'eaf.
2. In a hinge, the ctombination with a hinge-leaf comprising. two members, one member sliding beneath return-bent flanges on the other member, and a iiangeat one end.
of each member having a lateral tooth, and
a toggle lever rockable on one member and adapted to draw the teeth toward each other when said leverA is folded, of a co-acting hin e-leaf hinged on one end of one member of t e longitudinally adjustable hinge-leaf.
-3. In a hinge, the combination with a hinge-leaf comprising two members, one member slidable beneath return bent iianges on the othermember, each member having a right angular flange bent atlone end, said flanges each having a lateral "tooth thereon, a looped lever hingedby its ends on one member of the two-part hingeleaf, and means oonnectin the `otner member with said lever, whereby t e teeth are drawn toward each other whenthe lever isfolded, of av hinge-leaf. that is jointed. upon one end of one memberv of the two-part' hinge-leaf.v
