LAVATORY ATTACHMENT.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, NATHAN HIRsoH, a citizen of the United States, residing at Lancaster, in the county of Lancaster and State of South Carolina, have invented new and useful Improvements in Lavatory Attachments, of which the following is a specification.
The invention relates to an improvement in lavatory attachments, and particularly to a means whereby the seat cover is automatically raised when necessary.
The main object of the present invention is the provision of a platform adapted to move under the weight of the person and to automatically actuate the cover or seat, the seat proper being also provided with means whereby the platform is maintained in actuated position when relieved of the weight of the person.
The invention in its preferred form of details will be described in the following specification, reference being had particularly to the accompanying drawings, in .Which:
Figure 1 is a, perspective view illustrating the improvement. Fig. 2 is a plan of the same. Fig. 3 is a front elevation of the same.
In carrying out the present improvement, a main platform 1 is provided which at its forward end is mounted upon a fulcrum block 2 and at its rear end provided with a bar like extension 3, the platform adjacent its rear end being formed with an opening 4 to loosely encircle the base 5 of the bowl 6.
The cover 7 is connected through the medium of an angle arm 8 with the lever 9 pivotally mounted within the housing 11 secured to the floor, the rear extension 3 of the platform being connected to the lever 9 by a rod. A spring 10 connected to the housing and to the rod 12 serves to return the parts to normal position to replace the cover 12. The connection between the angle arm 8 and the seat cover is through the medium of a sleeve 13 provided with a set screw 14 whereby connection is adjustable Specification of Letters Patent.

to insure proper movement of the parts. Rods 15 are supported from the platform 1 and rest beneath the forward end of the seat proper 16, so that the latter which is normally elevated slightly from the bowl when not in use may actuate the platform to the desired extent through the rods when depressed under the weight of the user.
In use, it will be appreciated that a person approaching the apparatus and stepping upon the platform 1 will swing the cover 7 into elevated or upright position and that should such person be unable to reach the platform during further use of the device, the rods 15 serve to maintain the seat cover elevated during such period. When the apparatus is relieved of the weight of the person the cover 7 automatically returns to closed position confining all deleterious vapors within the bowl.
The improvement is designed particularly for use in more or less public lavatories where it is desirable to avoid unnecessary contact with the parts of the apparatus.
What is claimed is 1. The combination with a closet bowl having a seat and a cover therefor, of a platform fulcrumed at its forward edge in advance of the bowl and formed with an opening to loosely encircle the bowl, and a connection between said platform and cover in rear of the bowl, whereby'in depressing the platform the cover will be raised.
2. The combination with a closet bowl having a seat and a cover therefor, of a platform fulcrumed at its forward edge in advance of the bowl and formed with an opening to loosely encircle the bowl, a connection between said platform and cover in rear of the bowl, and rigid connections secured to the platform in advance of the bowl and resting beneath the seat.
In testimony whereof I affix my signature in presence of two witnesses.
NATHAN HIRS CH.
Witnesses:
