FOUNTAIN SYRINGE ATTACHMENT.
APPLIOATION FILED DBO. 31 1913.
Patented June 9, 1914.
INVENTOR J%'Z'@JZ F077 .4 TTORNEYS WITNESSES UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
HARLOIN F. ONG, OF PORTLAND, OREGON.
FOUNTAIN-SYRINGE. ATTACHMENT.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, HARLON F. ONG, a citizen of the United States, and a resident of Portland, in the county of Multnomah and State of Oregon, have invented a new and Improved Fountain-Syringe Attachment, of which the following is a full, clear, and exact description.
This invention relates to surgery, and has particular reference to fountain syringe devices or attachments for douching, mcdi eating, and cleansing the vaginas of women.
Among the special objects of the invention is to provide an oval or oblong type of nozzle attachment having one end adapted to enter and substantially close or 0bstruct the vulva, whereby the medicated and cleansing fluids may be injected as desired but will be prevented from being discharged except in the manner provided for.
Another object of the invention is to utilize the special form of nozzle for the purposes, first, of supplying in it a medicament in tablet or dry form which may pass into solution with the fluid delivered thereto from a syringe fountain, or the like, and secondly, to make use of the large body of air contained in the nozzle at the beginning of the operation, such air serving to cause swirling and bubbling, and being forced inwardly therefrom serves to balloon or distend the tissues and thereby markedly increase the distribution and cleansing and healing properties of the fluid medicament.
A still further object is to facilitate the control of admission of fluid to and delivered from the affected parts according to the patients sense of pressure resulting from the ballooning action above referred to, special valve means being resorted to, under certain conditions, to control the fluid circulation or discharge.
The foregoing and other objects of the invention will hereinafter be more fully described and claimed and illustrated in the drawings forming a part of this specification in which like characters of reference indicate corresponding parts in all the views, and in which-- Figure 1 is a perspective view of a preferred form of the invention; Fig. 2 is a longitudinal section of the attachment; and Fig. 3 is a detail view of one form of valve mechanism which may be employed in connection with the nozzle attachment.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Application filed December 31, 1913.
Patented June 9, 1914:.
Serial No. 809,682.
The several parts of the device may be made of any suitable materials, and the relative sizes and proportions, as well as the general design of the mechanism, may be varied to a considerable extent without cleparting from the spirit of the invention hereinafter more fully set forth and specifically claimed.
Referring more particularly to the drawings for a description of the mechanism, I show at 10 an. oval or globular nozzle attachment of considerable capacity and having an open inner end 11 and a similar outer end 12 preferably in alinement with each other and having 011 one side, preferably at a point not far remote from the outer end, an inlet neck 13 for attachment of a fountain hose let or other means for conveying fluid into and through the nozzle. The form and size of the nozzle makes it possible to introduce a medicament in the tablet or dry form, as suggested at 15, which will be in position to be acted upon and readily dissolved by the water introduced through the tube 14 and by it conveyed to the affected parts. The outer end 12 is adapted to be kept closed during the first part of the operation, either by the patients finger alone or in connection with any suitable auxiliary device such as a soft rubber cap 16 cooperating with an annular concave valve seat 17 surrounding the outlet. After the treatment has progressed as above described, the cleansing fluids may be discharged through the nozzle and from the outer end or out-- let 12.
Having thus described my invention, I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent The herein described nozzle for the purposes set forth, the same comprising a hollow, oval, globular member having a smooth inner end and an outer end comprising a valve seat, said ends having openings in alinement with each other, said device also being provided with. an inlet neck 011 one side not far remote from the outlet opening.
In testimony whereof I have signed my name to this specification in the presence of two subscribing witnesses.
HARLON F. ONG.
