To all whom it may concern Be it known that l, Josnrr-r A. GAcNoN, a citizen of the United States, residing at Fitchburg, in the county of l vorcester and State of l lassachusetts, have invented a new and useful Picker Mechanism for Looms, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to a picker mechanism for looms and more particularly to means for controlling the power transmitted to the picker stick.
It is one of the objects of my invention to provide improved means for supporting the lug strap independently of the picker stick, said means comprising novel provision for a plurality of adjustments whereby the power may be varied.
A further object of my invention is to provide means for reinforcing and strengthening the mounting of the picker stick and for resisting the side thrust thereof.
Still further objects of my invention relate to details of construction and advantages of operation which will be hereinafter described and more specifically pointed out in the appended claims.
A preferred form of my invention is shown in the accompanying drawing in which:

Referring to the drawing, the picker stick 10 is pivotally supported upon a stud 11, longitudinally adjustable in a slot 12 formed in the bracket 18 which is rigidly secured upon the rock shaft 14: by the set screw 15. A pair of parallel supporting plates 16 are also pivoted upon the stud 11 and are angularly adjustable about said pivot. The stud 11 is provided with an annular flange 17 which is slabbed off to permit the use of a wrench thereon, and is firmly clamped in adjusted position upon the bracket 13 by a nut 18 which also serves to secure the outer plate 16 in adjusted angular position. A brace 19 is secured to the bracket 18 by a bolt 20 which passes through a slot 21 in the brace, the other end of the brace having a hole 22 therein, through which the stud 11 projects. The picker stick 10 is pivoted upon the ud 11 outside of the brace 19 and is secured thereon by a washer 23 and cotter-pin The plates 16 are each provided with longitudinally extending slots 25, and a sleeve 26 which acts as a pivot bearing for the power gage 2?, is adjustably secured between the plates by a bolt 28 passing through the sleeve and the slots. The lug strap connection 29 has secured thereto by the bolt 30 a pair of separattd parallel rigid plates 31 which are made longitudinally adjustable upon the lug strap by the slots 32 therein ll asher plates 33 are provided upon the bolt 30 which embrace the plates 31 shown in Figs. 1 and 2. The plates 31 may be formed of any suitable material but I prefer to form them of vulcanized fiber, which material is peculiarly adapted to resist the repeated strains to which it is subjected. A stud having a slabbcd flange 35 is passed through holes in the plates 31 and serves to rigidly clamp between the plates a plurality of leather disks 36. This combination of rigid plates and leather disks is much more durable than the flexible lug strap commonly used and furthermore, when the disks become worn the bolt 3 .2 may be loosened and the disks may be given a partial rotation to present an entirely fresh wearing surface at the point of operation. In this manner a single set of leather disks may be made to outwear a large number of lug straps of the usual form. T he outer end of the stud 234 is provided with a cylindrical portion 37 upon which is loosely pivoted the upper end of the power gage 2T, retained thereon by the nut 38 and washer 39.
The longitudinal adjustment of the stud 11 in the slot 12 provides means for adjusting the center of oscillation of the picker stick whereby the shuttle may be properly it irown. The longitudinal adjustment of the bolt 28 in the slots 25 provides means for varying the vertical position of the lug strap and connections relative to the pivot 11 by which adjustment the power transmitted to the picker stick may be varied as desired. Further adjustment of the power may be secured by angularly adjusting the plates 16 upon the stud 11, by which means the angular position of the pivot 26 relative to the pivot 11 may be varied. The brace 19 is clamped to the bracket 13 after the stud 11 has been secured in desired position and serves to support the inner end of the stud against the alternating lateral pressure caused by the application of the power during the operation of the loom. The utility of the longitudinal adjustment of the lug strap plates 31 upon the lug strap connection 29 will be obvious and the particular advantages obtained by the use of the disks 36 have been already pointed out.
While a preferred form of my invention is shown in the drawings it is obvious that many changes may be made therein by anyone skilled in the art without departing from the spirit and scope of my invention and I do not wish to be limited to all the details of construction herein disclosed, but
What I do claim is 1. In a loom, in combination, a rock shaft, a bracket secured thereto, a picker stick pivoted on said bracket, a pair of separated parallel plates angularly adjustable on said bracket, a lug strap, and a power gage pivotally mounted on a stud longitudinally adjustable on said parallel plates and pivotally connected at its upper end to said lug strap, the angular adjustment of said plates and the longitudinal adjustment of said stud both acting to vary the power transmitted to said picker stick.
2. In a loom, in combination, a rock shaft,
a bracket secured thereto, apicker stick, a stud for said picker stick longitudinally adjustable in said bracket, and a brace for said stud also longitudinally adjustable on said bracket and having an opening therein fitting the stud, said brace reinforcing the stud against the alternating side thrusts of the picker stick.
3. In a loom, in combination, a rock shaft, a bracket secured thereto, a picker stick pivoted to said bracket, a lug strap for operating said picker stick formed of separated side members embracinga hunter, a power gage mounted on a pivot adjustably secured to said bracket, and a stud pivotally connecting said power gage to said lug strap and clamping the btuiter between the side memhers, said stud passing through the upper end of said power gage and through the outer ends of the side members and also through the bunter.
