CUE-TIP CLAMP.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, THEODORE R. Tnnmnn, a citizen of the United States, residing at Kansas City, in the county of Jackson and State of Missouri, have invented a certa n new and useful Improvement in Cue-Tip Clamps, of which the following is a specification.
My invention relates to improvements in one tip clamps.
One object of my invention is to provlde a cue tip clamp with means for suspendlng the one in a vertical position, while the cement, which holds the tip to the body of the cue, is setting. In theusual practice, the cues are left standing in a leaning position during this setting operation and often receive permanent bends.
It is the object of this invention to provide means for suspending the cues, thereby eliminating danger of the cues being bent during the setting of the cement.
A further object of my invention is to provide the sliding clamping member with yielding means for engaging the body of the cue, whereby the body is not marred when the sliding member is slipped onto the one and a firmer grip on the body is obtained, said yielding means also serving as a finger hold by which the sliding clamping member may be easily moved to or from the clamping position.
' Other novel features of my invention are hereinafter fully described and claimed.
In the accompanying drawings, which illustrate the preferred form of my invention, Figure 1 is a side elevation of my improved cue tip clamp, showing, in dotted lines, a cue to which the clamp is attached. F ig.-2 is a side elevation of the improved clamp viewed from a position at right angles to that of Fig. 1. Fig. 3 is a cross section on the line 3-3 of Fig. 1. Fig. 1 is a side elevation of the ring clamping member, the strap being omitted.
Similar reference characters designate similar parts in the different views.
1 designates one of the clamping members provided on one side with V shaped seats 2 adapted to receive therein the body 3 of a cue. The member 1 is also provided with a right angled portion 1 which serves as a seat against which is adapted to bear the tip 5 of the cue. A ring member 6 is adapted to slide on the member 1 and on the body 3 to the clamping position shown in Specification of Letters Patent.

Said ring member 6 is provided in one side with two parallel slots 7 therethrough in which is mounted a flexible device, such as a piece of leather 8, which is adapted to bear against the body 3, thereby forming a yielding seat therefor, which prevents marring of the cue body when the ring member is slipped to or from the clamp ing position, and also serving to effect a firmer grip on the body. Preferably the leather piece 8 has its ends protruding from the slots 7 sufiiciently for the said piece to form a finger hold, by means of which the ring member may be easily slipped to or from the clamping position.-
The member 1 is provided with means by which it and the other member and one may be suspended with the one in a vertical position, while the cement, which is to hold the tip to the body, is setting. This suspending means consists, preferably, of a hook 9 located at the extreme outer end of the member 1, and formed by recessing a portion of the member 1, a portion of the clamping member 1 being interposed between the tip 5 and the hook 9, thereby preventing injury to the tip from contact with the support which engages the hook 9. This support, not shown, may be a nail or a strung wire. F ollowing the aflixing of the clamping members to the cue, the hook 9 is hung on the support with the cue disposed in a vertical position. After the cement has become set, the hook may be detached from its su ort and the ring member slid from the member 1.
I do not limit my invention to the structure shown and described, as modifications, within the scope of the appended claims, may be made without departing from the spirit of my invention.
Having thus described my invention,what I claim and desire to secure by Letters Patent is:--
1. A one tip clamp having a clamping member provided with a suspending hook and having a seat for embracing the body of a one, and having, at right angles to said seat, a seat for embracing a tip, and a second clamping member for engaging the body and the other clamping member, the hook when engaging a support, such as a wire, suspending the cue vertically.
2. A one tip clamp having a clamping member provided with two seats for respectively engaging the body and tip of a one, and provided at one end beyond the seat for the tip with a suspending hook, and a second clamping member for engaging the body of the cue and the other clamping member, the hook when engaging a support, such as a wire, suspending the cue vertically.
3. A cue tip clamp having a clamping member provided with means for engaging the body and tip of a cue, and a second clamping member adapted to slidably engage said body and the other member and having yielding means for engaging the body, said yielding means having a free projecting portion serving as a finger hold.
4. A cue tip clamp having a clamping member provided with means for engaging the body and tip of a cue, and a second ring shaped clamping member for slidably engaging the body and the other member and having yielding means for engaging the body, said yielding means having a free pro- 20 jecting portion serving as a finger hold.
5. A cue tip clamp having a clamping member provided with means for engaging the body and tip of a cue, and a ring shaped clamping member having two parallel transverse slots through one side thereof and provided with a flexible seat piece extending through said slots and adapted to bear against said body and having its free ends projecting and serving as a finger hold.
