Letters/Patent No. 109,945, dated December 6, `1870.
-lMPROV-EMENT IN CORN-SHELLERS.
The Schedule referred to n these Letten Patent and making the a'me.
To all whom. it may concern c Be it knowutbat I, GEORGE REIsINGER,'ot'tlxe city of Harrisburg, in4 the. county of Dauphin and in the State ot' Pennsylvania, have invented certain new and useful Improvements hLFam'ily Corn-Sheller; and do hereby declare that the following is a fnll, clear, and exact description thereof, relerence being had to the zicoon'lpanying `drawing and to the letters ol retin-ence marked thereon making apart ot' this specification.
My present invention is intended as an improvement upon the corn-sheller t'or which Letters Patentwere granted to me September 13, 1870; and
vIt consists in the shelling-teeth beingaitached to or iil'ming part'ot'two sliding jaws, which are pressed or held together by means ofrubber rings; and, also, in the construction of the standard or footot' the machine, all of which will be hereinafter l'ully set forth.
In order to enable others skilled in the art to which my invention apperftains to make and use the same, l will now proceed to describe its construction and operation, referring to the annexed drawing,
inv which- Figure 1 is a side view of the machine, showing the" insidethereof; v
Figure 2'is a plan view of the same with ille de cached ring removed and Y Figure 3 is a'perspective view ot theentire machine, showing the foot or standard, andthe mode of attachingit to a board.
' A represents the cylindrical cap-bon;l
B, the hollow revolving journal, wit-h two cranks, C 0'; and v D is the detachable ring, to prevent the corn from scattering in shelling all of said parts being constructed substantially in the salue manner as described in my former patent above referred to.
The cap-box A is formed upon the upper end of a curved foot or standard H, the lower end of which is screwed to the end ot'a board, I, in such amanner that the sheller will be above and in front of the end ofthe board, as shown in lig. 3.
o The operator places the heard I under him, so that.
the end of the board having the Sheller attached projects iu front of him, and will thus allow the shelled corn to fall down in any vessel-placed'tbrits reception without failing on the board, which would causel it to scatter too much.
Instead of ,securingthe standard H to the board I by screws, I may provide the lower end ot' the standard with a clamp' or other suitable device for fastening.
At the front cud of the hollow revolving journal are placed two jaws, -E E, made nearly semicircular, and provided each, near its center, on theouterside, with a-sloti-d bnr, a, which' is attached to a projection from 'the front edge of thejouijnal by means ol' screw or rivet- I), or other suitable means, so that the s iid bar may slide, bringing the jaw with it, and thus allowing the two jaws to close or separate.
At the ends ot'each jaw E are l'ormed hooked projections (I, .as shown in tig. 2, and the two jaws are connected together by means ot rubber rings G passing around said projections, thus holding the two jaws close together. l
'On the front sides of the jaws are formed theshelling-teeth c e, having their edges beveled so as tol'orm a sharp point upon them, and moderately sharp edges upon the sides thatbear against the cob.
The peculiar form ofthe shelling-teeth enables the operator to shell or remove green corn froml the ear as'wellasdrled Corinthe teeth bearing against the cob with a sufpcient degree of force to extract all the.
substance ofthe grain therefrom in a perfectly satisthrough, the hands are changed, the left hand taking hold of the crank G and' the right hand of the-cob.
Having thus fully described my invention,
lVhat I claimas new, and desire -to secure by Lety ters Patent, is-
The within-described corn-Sheller, consisting ot. thesliding jaws E E, provided with the teeth e aand hooked projections l d, therubber bands vor springs G G, curved foot H, and cap-box A, all constructed and arranged to operate substantially as set forth.V
In testimony that I cla-im the foregoing, I have..
hereunto set my hand this 18th dayvol' November.
GEORGE lV'. REISINGER.
