GRINDING 0R PULPING MACHINE.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented June 9, 1914.
Application filed January 7, 1914. Serial No. 810,780.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, FREDERICK LACHLAN MoKiNNoN, a subject of the King of the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Ireland, and residentof Aberdeen, Scotland, have invented a certain new and useful Improvcment in Grinding or Pulping chines, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to grinding or pulping machines applicable for treating coffee and the like and has for its primary object to provide an improved construction of adjustable breast for such machines, for separating the pulp from the berries of coffee for instance.
In the accompanying drawings Figural is an elevation of an adjustable breast embodying the invention; Fig.2 is a vertical section on the line A, B Fig. 1.
Referring to thedrawings, the doors or gutters 1, 1 are formed integral with the solid casting of the breast 2, the edges of the doors or gutters at the bottom 3 and sides 1, 4 being separated from the casting by saw cuts. By this arrangement a spring door or gutter is provided, there being sufficient elasticity in the cast iron of which the breast is made to permit of the necessary adjustment of the door or gutter. The doors may be adjusted by means of handwheels 5 carried by a cross bar 11 secured to the breast 2, and in screw-threaded engagement with studs 12 fitted to the doors 1. The hand-Wheels 5 are provided with locking wing nuts 10.
To prevent the doors from being moved too far from central position while bein adjusted and thus being caused to snap ofi, a locking arrangement is provided to limit the movement of each door. The locking arrangement consists of a plate 6 fitted on the breast 2 over, and spaced apart from, the door 1, said plate 6 having a central perforation 7 through which is passed a pin 8 mounted on the door 1. The pin head abutting on the outer surface of said plate 6 limits the inward movement of the door, the
outward movement being limited by the.
door 1 abutting on the inner surface of said plate (3.
What I claim is 1. A breast for a grinding or pulping machine comprising a resilient body portion having an integral door partially separated from said body portion.
2. A breast for a grinding or pulping machine comprising a resilient casting having an integral door partially separated from the body of said casting, in combination with means for adjusting said door and means for limiting the movement of said door in either direction.
In testimony whereof I have signed my name to this specification in the presence of two subscribing witnesses.
FREDERICK LAOHLAN MOKINNON.
