The Schedule :eten-ed to in these Letters Patent an making of Ihe lsame. I.
Be it known that I, LOUIS HILDENBRAXD, of liiehignn City, in the conntyof La lPox-tc and State ot' Indianznlmse-invented a newl and'improved Coffee- Steznner; and 'I do'herebydeclare that theiblloiving'is a full, clear, and exact description thereof, which will enable others skilledv in the nrt to malte vand use the same, reference beinglmd to the accompanying draw ing forming part of this specifiention, in .Whichl1`ignre 1 represents a vertical central section'of my improved coleefsteamer;
vFigure 2 is nfllorizontal section of the sinne, tnhen on the p lnne ol-'the line x rv, lig. l.

This invention 'relates to a new apparatus for rapidly 'extracting -the aromatic ingredients from entice-beans by means of steam created by theheat'of n, stove .or
other heater-with ,an object of' utilizing the full virtue of the beans, and consequently economizing coieeand producing :t beverage superior to that nia-fle by any'of the means heretofore in use..
Mymachine consists ot' two main vessels A andB. The lower vessel, A, contains the Water retpiiredfor.
boiling, and is provided with a handle, a, :ind dis- /chargespout b, which latteris closed by n stopper, c,
to prevent the escape of steam.
The nppervessel, B, which is made of sheet metal, glass, or other suitable materiah, contains a perforated 'l'itlse bottom, ztndlts at its lower end into a cylinclreal case, C, of greater or less length.-
Through this case passes a vertical pipe, e, open at both ends, for conveying steam to the upper vessel.
' f -The bottoni ofthe case C is closed bye plate, j', :md
the top by a plate, t', :t flange extending ,upward beyond said platte i to receive andhold the vessel B y is a pipe extending from thc'plate j np intothi ense C, andprovided with nl valve, h., by which it can be closed.
\Vhen the steam-is created in t-helowcr vvessel i1 asco-nds into: the pipe vg and 1nodnce-s-thereinn'snitable alarm, either by means-cfa whistle or otherl in strmnent. v.
'lhe valve. h is then clo'setl amd the steam is thereby forced to 'asc-end inthe pipe ev and to enter the vessel .B throngh the sieve boiling the coli'ee' on said sieve and extracting the aroma therefrom.
By opening the viilveh the steam willbedischargcd into thecnse G, amiescnpethence through anori-. eaj I -I l, I
The vessels B and C may be rigidly united, while the case C may be fittedY upon A by screw-thread. or other fastening; Y e
When the vessel is taken from the lire theextrnct of coffee will enter the `vessel A, and can thence be poured into cnps. i
' A strainer or peril-)latedl plate nnty be applied to the lo\ver end of the pipevg to prevent pa-xticle's'of coffee, that might accidentally have found their wayvinto 'the chamber A, from being` carried np into the-pipe gztnd clogging the valve. Having thus described my invention,
I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Thel coffee-steamer, composed of the' vessels A B, intermediate case C, and pipes e `1],'nll arranged to opcrate snbstnntiallyns -hcr'ein shownand described.
