T0 HU yf/mfmy it muy concern Be it known that I', DAvm Ji RADDIOK, a citizen of' the United States. residing at Nordhoti', in the county of Ventura and State of California, have invented'new and useful Improvements in Oil-Burners, of which the following is av specification.
My invention relates to oil burners.
One object of my invention isto provide a burner device of this type which will be free from the formation of soot, and one which will give a blue flame.
A further object of the invention is to generally improve the construction ofy a burner device of this kind.
The preferred embodiment of my invention is hereinafter described and illustrated in the accompanying drawings.
In said drawings:-Figure 1 is an elevation showing the burner body in section, and, Fig. 2 is a detail sectional view illustrating the burner.
Referring to the drawings, 1 designates an oil or fuel tank to which is connected a hose or pipe 2, preferably flexible, leading from a hand operated pump 3. A pipe 4 or other suitable supply means, leads from the tank 1 to a retort pipe 5, which is deflected dowinvardly at 6 and returns at 7, the end of which portion 7 is suitably deected and provided with a burner proper S. A suitable, control or regulating valve 9 may be provided either in the pipe 4 or 5. The burner proper' 8 preferably consists 0f a hollow body, as shown in Fig. 2, having an extension thereon provided with screw threads to removably engage the end of the pipe portion 7. Said burner is also provided with a nozzle or outlet 10, the opening in which has a tapered wall. A`needle valve stem 11 is screw threaded in a projection 12 of tbe burner body and has a tapered point adjacent the opening in the nozzle 10. Said stem 11 is preferably rovided with a handle such as 13. In the ottorn or other suitable portieri of the burner proper 8 is provided a removable plug 14 preferably having a screw threaded shank 15 secured in an opening in the body.
The numeral 16 designates a burner casing. preferably cylindrical, perforated at the upper portieri thereof, as shown. Said casingI is suitably supported upon a base such as 17 as b v means of arms 18 rising from the base and partly surrounding the casing. 'lhe pipe portions 5, 6 and 7, and the burner 8 a-re located-within the casing 1G which has an open end through which said parts freely pass. In the bottonrof the casing is providedaslidable flame deiector or spreader such as 19 which is arranged in alinement withffand opposite the nozzle of the burner proper. The base 17 to which the casing is attached, preferably merely rests upon a support, so that the same can be readily disengagedor moved out of operative relation with the remainder of the apparatus to facilitatecleaning ot' the parts.
Tzhe fuel from the tank 1 is supplied under pressure obtained through the operation of pump, through pipe 4, into pipe portions 5, 6 and 7 a nd through the nozzle 10, whose extent of opening` may be regulated through the adjustment of they valvestem 11. The flame from the nozzle strikes against the spreader 19 which causes the flame to spread and be deflected upwardly. The heat from the flame within the chamber acts on the pipes 5, 6 and 7, and the contained fuel under pressure therein and converts the same into a gas so that the fuel emerges from the burner in a gaseous state. By means of the casing 16 being hollow together with the flame spreader means, the heat is distributed evenly over the upper or perforated portion of the casing 16.
By means of the adjustable Valve stem 11 the same may be adjusted to clean or rcmove soot or carbon from the opening in the nozzle 10, should such a deposit form therein. Also by means of the removable plug 14, access may be had to the interior of the burner 8 to clean the same without necessitating the removal of the burner proper from the pipe portion 7.

Having thus described my invention, what I claim is 1. In a burner device, in combination with a source of fuel supply, a pipe for the fuel having a burner thereon, a casing into which said burner extends having a wall arranged over the burner and having a flame deflector exterior thereof. said pipe extending in advance of and above said burner and Hame le/Hector into said casing, said burner located at one side of said defiector to discharge its flame against the deflector for deflection upwardly against said pipe.
2. In a burner device, in combination with a source of fuel supply, a pipe for the fuel having a burner thereon, a casing into which said burner extends having a perforated upperv wall and having a flame deflector interior thereof, said burner located at one side of said deflector, said delector slidable longitudinally of the casing to and from said burner.
3. In a portable burner device, in combination with a source of fuel supply, a pipe for the fuel having a burner thereon, a casing into which said burner extends mounted slidably longitudinally relatively to said pipe, said casing having a perforated upper Wall extending over said burner.
4. In a portable burner device, in combination with a source of fuel supply, a pipe for the fuel having a burner member thereon, a casing member into which said burner extends having a flame deflector therein, one of said members slidable relatively to the other whereby the parts may be adjusted to vary the distance between the burner and deilector.
5. In a burner device, pipe means to sup- 25 ply fuel comprising a main pipe portion, a l
portion deflected downwardly therefrom 1nto a return pipe portion located below the main pipe portion, a burner on said return pipe portion arranged to produce the flame eneath both of said pipe portions in a direction longitudinally of the pipe portions and toward the deflection of the main pipe portion, and a casing in which said pipe portions are located.
6. In a burner device, a main pipe por tion to supply fuel, a portion deflected therefrom, a return portion connected to the delected portion, a burner secured on said return portion, said burner having a nozzle, an adjustable valve controlling the extent of opening of the nozzle, a casing having an open end into which the pipe portions and burner extend, a flame deflector in said casing adjacent the nozzle, and said casing having a perforated uppper portion.
