UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
OSCAR H. LARSON, 0F ATWATER, MINNESOTA.
WHEEL-GUARD FOR HAY-RACKS.
To all whom it may concern Be it known that I, OSCAR H. LARSON, a a citizen of the United States, residing at Atwater, in the county of Kandiyohi and State of Minnesota, have invented new and useful Improvements in WVheel-Guards for Hay-Racks and the like, of which the following is a specification.
My invention relates to improvements in wheel guards for hay racks and the like. \Vheel guards, as usually constructed for such purposes, consist of arched frames of Wood which require considerable material and labor in their construction.
It is my object to provide as a substitute for such guards a cheap, strong and durable sheet metal guard capable of being readily applied to the ordinary wheel guard supports of a hay rack.
In the drawings, Figure 1 is a perspective view illustrating my invention and Fig. 2 is a plan view of the sheet metal blank from which my wheel guard is formed.
Referring to the drawings, I have used the reference numeral 10 to indicate the blank which is stamped from a sheet of suitable metal. This blank consists of a body 11 terminating at each end in an anchor plate 12 formed with perforations 12 therein and at each side in a flange 14 having its ends beveled to form shoulders 15.
The body 11 is formed with longitudinal corrugations as indicated by the numeral 16 in Fig. 1; the flanges 14 are bent at right angles to the body 11 and crimped as desig- Specification of Letters Patent.
Application filed March 8, 1913.
Serial No. 753,020.
nated by the numeral 17 to curve and reinforce said body, and the anchor plates 12 are bent to rest in horizontal alinement with the adjacent shoulders 15 of said flanges 14.
In use, the guard is applied as illustrated in Fig. 1 wit-h the anchor plates 12 and the shoulders 15 of the flanges 14 bearing upon the guard supports 18, and said anchor plates 12 are secured by bolts 19 or other suitable means to said supports.
It will be noted that the flanges 14 form side fenders as Well as reinforcing flanges on the corrugated curved body 11 and that both body and flanges have an eflicient bearing on the supporting frame.
Having described my invention, what I claim as new and desire to protect by Letters Patent, is:
A wheel guard comprising a body having anchor plates at its ends and flanges, provided with shoulders, at its sides, the body being arched and formed with adjacent longitudinal corrugations, the flanges turned downward from said body and the plates bent to positions in parallel alinement with said shoulders, all of said parts being integral with each other.
In testimony whereof, I have signed my name to this specification in the presence of two subscribing Witnesses.
OSCAR H. LARSON. l/Vitnesses M. P. BROWN, CHAS. A. SWENSON.
