Pi YTNESSES v INVENTOR Z6 .v z I W f ll/0m WILLIAM A. DOLEZAL, 0F BURKE, SOUTH DAKOTA.
SUBSOILER.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented May 5, 1914.
Application filed August 6, 1912. 1 Serial No. 713,665.
To all whom it may concern Be it known that I, WILLIAM A. DOLEZAL, a citizen of the United States, residing at Burke, in the county of Gregory and State of South Dakota, have invented new and useful Improvements in Subsoilers, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to the class of farming implements and pertains especially to the class of subsoilers adapted to be attached to an ordinary sulky-plow.
An object of my invention is to provide a subsoiler the point of which can be raised and lowered from the operators plow seat.
Another object of my invention is to provide a spring for holding the subsoiler in the ground and at the same time allows it to be raised up should the point come in contact with a stone of other hard substance within the ground.
A further object of the invention is to provide a lever connected to a rod which in turn is secured to an iron strip for raising and lowering the subsoiler by operating the lever.
With the foregoing and other objects in view, my invention consists in such details of construction and arrangement of parts as will be hereinafter more fully described and pointed out in the appended claims.
In describing my invention in detail reference will be had to the accompanying drawings wherein like characters denote like or corresponding parts throughout the several views, and in which,
Figure 1 is a side elevation of the subsoiler attached to a sulky-plow, the dotted lines showing the raised position thereof, and Fig. 2 is a top view.
In the drawings the numeral 1 designates the subsoiler beam, to which is secured by any suitable means the subsoiler point 2. This beam 1 is held away from the sulkyplow beam 3 by means of a bushing 4: secured at one end to thesaid beam 3 and at the other end to a clevis 5 which is bolted or otherwise fastened to the beam 1 to form a pivot connection between the subsoiler and the sulky-plow.
Pivoted by means of a fork 6 to the rear end of the beam 1 is a rod 7, which extends upwardly at an angle and terminates in a head 8. Near the front end of the said beam and likewise pivoted thereto by means of a fork 9 is an iron strip 10 also extending upwardly at an angle so as to meet the said rod'7. The upper end of this'strip 10 is enlarged at 11 and has a hole therein to permit its sliding up and down on they means of connection between the said lever 15, and the strip 10.
The clevis 5 is provided with a brace 18 so that the subsoiler may be adjusted to the beam 3 at any desired height and held securely thereto by means of braces 18.
It will be seen that when it is desired that the subsoiler should be raised, all the operator has to do is to push the hand-lever 15 forward thereby pulling the connecting rod 16 which in turn lifts the strip 10 until it strikes the knob 8 thus causing the rear end of the beam 1 and the point 2 to be lifted entirely free of the ground as shown by the dotted lines Fig. 1.
I desire it to be understood that I may make slight changes in the combination and arrangement of parts without departing from the spirit of the invention provided such changes come within the scope of the subjoined claims.
Having thus fully described my invention what I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent is 1. In combination with a sulky plow, a subsoiler attachment therefor including a beam, a clevis rigidly secured to the forward end of the said beam, means for pivotally and adjustably connecting the beam of the sulky plow to said first mentioned beam, a rod pivotally connected to the rear end of the said first mentioned beam and extending upwardly at an acute angle thereto, a strip pivoted to the other end of the said beam having an opening formed in the free end thereof through which the said rod extends, a coil spring disposed to embrace the said rod for yieldably supporting the said strip thereupon, and means connecting the said strip to the said plow for raising and lowering the subsoiler, as and for the purse set forth- 2. In combination with a sulky plow, a subsoiler attachment therefor lncludlng; a beam having a clevis fixedly secured to the forward end thereof, a bushing adjustably v said strip having an opening formed in the free end thereof through which the said rod extends, a spring arranged to embrace the said rod for yieldablv supporting the strip thereupon, a hand lever pi'vot'ally secured to the said plow, and a rod connecting the said lever to the saidstrip for raisin; and lowering the s'ubsoiler according to the operation of the said handle, as and for the purpose set forth.
3. In a subsoiler, the combination, of a sulky-plow, a pivot connection between the subsoiler and the plow, a bushing for holding the two apart, a rod pivoted to the rear end of the subsoiler beam and extend ing upwardly toward the front thereof, a
strip pivoted to the other end of said beam and slidable on the said rod, a coil-spring mounted on the'said rod, a segmental rack carried theplow, a hand lever operated inconnection therewith, and a rod connection between the lever and the strip sothat the working of .S aid lever will raise and lower the subs oiler.
