Be it known that I, CHARLES A. ABBATH, a citizen of the United States, and a resident of the city of Quincy, county of Adams,

. andfitate of Illinois, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Cabinets, of which the following is a specification.

My invention relates to improvements in cabinets and has for its object the provision of an improved cabinet which is so arranged and constructed as to permit of the ready sub-division of compartments therein "embodying my invention, and Fig. 2, a perspective view of a shiftable shelf and 'its supports mounted in the construction.

The preferred form of construction as illustrated in the drawing comprises a cabinet which is made of wood or ether suitable material and is provided with a plurality of horizontal fixed shelves 1 and vertical partitions 2 dividing the same into a plurality of compartments 3 of equal sizes. A number of shiftable shelves 4 are arranged to be shifted to different compartments in the cabinet. Each of these shelves 4 is provided with grooves 5 in its edges and two sheet metal supporting plates 6 having central 7 adapted to fit the corresponding grooves 5 are provided for each of the shelves 4. These plates 6 are of a size to fit within the compartments and are arran ed on edge on each side thereof with their 11ps 7 extending inwardly. en in this position shiftable shelf 4 may be readily slid into or out of position as will be readily understood. By this arrangement it will be observed that any of the compartments may be readily sub-divided by shelf 4 thus permitting of the rearrangement of the articles in the cabinet as indicated in Fig. 1 when desired.

While I have illustrated and described the preferred form of construction for carrying my invention into effect, this is capable of variation and modification without departing from the spirit of the invention. I, therefore, do not wish to be limited to the precise details of construction set forth, but desire to avail myself of such variations and modifications as come within the scope of the appended claims.

Having described my invention what I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent is:

1. A cabinet comprising a plurality of compartments; a shiftable shelf; and two shiftable supports adapted to fit within said com partments, each of said supports consisting of a plate adapted to rest upon the bottom of the compartment and provided with a rib adapted to serve as a su port for the corresponding edge of said s elf, substantially as described.

2. A cabinet composing a plurality of compartments of e ual sizes; a shiftable shelf having groove edges; and two shiftable supports adapted to fit within any of said compartments, eachof said supports consistingof a sheet metal plate provided with a central rib ada ted to fit the groove in the correspondin e ge of said shelf, substantially as descri d.
