Description
JOSEPH VOLZ, 0F ENGLEVALE, NORTH DAKOTA.
INKSTAND.
To @ZZ whom it may concern Be it known that I, Josnrn VoLz, residing at Englevale, in the county of Ransom and State of North Dakota, have invented new and useful Improvements in Inkstands, of which the following is a specification.
An object of the invention is to provide a simple and durable inlstand arranged and constructed to feed a supply of ink from a main reservoir or container into a dipchamber.
The invention embodies, among other features, a base which supports the container from which the ink flows into the dip-cham ber, the said base being constructed to provide a support for pen holders and the like, and including an annular container consti tuting a compartment adapted to receive a moistened sponge or other pen wiper or adapted as a receptacle for pens.
In the further disclosure of the invention reference is to be had to the accompanying drawings, constituting a part of this specification, in which similar characters of reference denote corresponding parts in all the views, and in Which:
Figure 1 is a perspective View of the article; Fig. 2 is a vertical sectional view; and Fig. 3 is a plan view.
Referring more particularly to the views, I disclose an inksta-nd 10 consisting of a circular base 11, preferably formed of glass, and including an inner annular flange 12 forming a seat 13 and an outer annular flange lll, a space being' provided between the flanges 12 and 14 and constituting a compartment 15, the said compartment being circular and adapted to receive a sponge 16 or other suitable pen wiping medium. A series of serrations 17 are preferably formed in the upper edge of the outer flange 1l for the purpose of supporting pen holders or the like thereo-n. A receptacle 18 provides a main reservoir 19 and the said re ceptacle is adapted to repose upon the seat 13 formed by the flange 12 of the base 11, the said receptacle including a suitable inlet 2O normally closed by a stopper 21, an outlet 22 surrounded by an offset channellike member 23 providing a dip-chamber 24, the said channel-like membe-r 23 being adapted to project beyond the inner flange 12 and extend slightly over and beyond the Specification of Letters Patent.

inner wall of the annular compartment 15. Now it will be apparent that the main reservoir 19 is filled by pouring the ink in through the inlet 20 after the stopper 21 has been removed therefrom, and that when the reservoir is filled with ink or other fluid, the said fluid will flow through the outlet 22 into the dip-chamber 24, the depth of the fluid in the dip-chamber 2li, while there is a sufficient supply of fluid in the main reservoir 19, being at all times the same, as will be readily understood, it being well known that with a structure of this kind the inl; will feed from the main reservoir into the dip-chamber and will at all times maintain the same amount of ink in the dip-chamber.
F rom the foregoing description it will be seen that an inkstand is provided which not only combines an inkwell and dip-chamber, with means for supporting pen holders and a pen wiper, but also presents a structure of neat appearance and in which the parts can be readily separated for the purpose of cleaning the article.
It will be understood that the compartment 15 need no-t necessarily contain the sponge 1G constituting a suitable pen wiper but may be used as areceptacle for pens or the like.
Having thus described my invention, I claim:
In an inkstand, the combination with a base, of an inner flange formed on the base to provide a depression constituting a scat, an outer flange formed on the base and spaced from the inner flange to forni an annular compartment around the inner flange, a receptacle removably supported on the seat, an outlet spo-ut formed with the receptacle andv reposing upon the said inner flange to facilitate the supporting of the receptacle upon the said seat, with the said outlet spout projecting beyond the flange and having its outlet above the upper edge of the outer flange, said outer flange being higher than the inner flange and spaced from the said spout.
In testimony whereof I affix my signature in presence of two witnesses.
JOSEPH VGIJZ.
