In the drawing which nccompanies and makes part of this specification, I have represented a convenient and practicable form of my machine, 0Whl0h-;

Tho bed or foundation of my machine, which may be of any suitable form or size, is represent-ed in the drawing at A A A v A, on tho left, cznrics a slidc head-stock, which is moved forward or backward by a; screw suitably ar ranged beneath. This head-stock supports in bearings the mandrel, which carriestho lap to, and has n pulicy, a, oiproper size and shape fixed upon it.
The bed A, on the right, is properly recessed to receive a slide-bod, a, tho forward end of which is provided with on open socket or slecvc l'.
Through this socket passes a closely fitted and strong pivot, c, which carries thc swinging bed (I. This swings in horizontal [)lonc.
It is hold at any given t ngle by a segmental index, 11, on the sliding bed, a small bolt, 0, fig. 5, being pressed down by the spring on the lcvcr e, to which it is attached, and passing into holes in the said index.
Upon this swinging bed is another slide hood-stock, E, fig. 3, carrying .n mandrel and fed forward in tho sumo manner as that bcl'orcdcscribcd,lbr the purpose of moving the point-of the chuck on tho cud of thc mandrel beyond the swing-cutter, thcrcbyclongating or shortening tho radius, and giving dlifcrcnt nrcs'ot' cnrvoturc. This mandrel is rcvolvcd in suitable bearmgr a policy fixed thereon, and has suitable chucks i'or holding the lens or stone to be ground.

What I claim as now, and desire insecure by Let- ;tcrs Patent of the, United States, is-
*1. in a machine for grinding curved or faceted surfaces, a swing-center, c, in combination with a sliding hand-stock, E, mandrel, and xcv'ol ving lap, as set forth.
2. The swinning bed :1, carrying the sliding lies-1% cmm, vunset; form.
stock E and mandrel, when 'the parts are so arranged that the point of the chuck may be advanced hcyornl the swing-center, for the purpose set forth.
3. The swinging bed (I, carrying tho mandrel, whcn tho said had is moved forward will hnckward by the swinging motion, as set forth.
4. The socketed slide-bed 1:,cnrrying lho swinging bed, with its pinion, the said pinion being connected on cam for moving the sliding" bod through a lover.
5. -Lho steel hands, connecting the boilers g gfurmngcd as described, the outer carrying a cam of any desird form the cam operating'on the lover, as set forth.
