Leners' Patent No, 109,323, aand Nummer 15, 1870.
IMPROVEMENT IN MUFF AND COLLAR-BOXES.
The Schedule referred-to in theseLetters Patent and making part of the saine To all-'whom t'may concern..-
Be it knownthat I, Gustav L. JAEGER, of the city, county, and State of New York, have invented anew and improved Muti' and Collar-Box and I do hereby declare the following vto be a full, clear, and exact description thereof', which will enable those skilled in the art to make and use the same, reference being had to the. accompanying drawing forming part of this specification, in whichdrawing--- Figure 1 represents a transverse vertical section 'o -Figure 2 is a similar section oi' the s box' is'closed.
Figures 3 and 1 are two sections of a' modification of the box represented in the previous iigures.
Similar letters indicate corresponding parts.
This invention relates toa box, the cover or body of which is provided with an internal flange in such a manner that, when the cover isA turned down or closed, a double joint is formedwhich l'eiiectually prevents, the entrance of moths or other insects.
The i'lange on the cover is, by preference, made'inwardly inclined, so that the -space inclosed by the same' forms the receptacle for a collar, while a mui can be placed in the body of the box. Fromthe inner edge of the cover extends an apron to the opposite side of the body of the box in such a manner that, on-opening the. cover, the muii or-other article resting on said apron is raised up to facilitate its: removal .from the box, and, at the same time, the
apron formsa convenient support for the mud'.
A balance weight secured to the front side of. the body of the box prevents said box from tipping over when the cover is opened.
In the drawing- The letter A designates the body of my box, which is provided with a top or cover, B.
This cover is furnished with internal anges a, so that, when the s arne is closed down upon the body A, a close joint will be formed, (see-figs. Zand 3,) and the mnif and collar or other articles contained in said box will be efl'ectually protected against dust and also against insects. 4
If desired, the flanges a insteadoi beingsecured to ,the cover vmay be attached to the box, and in this case areceptacle will be formed for insect-powder or other suitable material, so that, when the cover. is closed down, the entrance of insects will be most effectually prevented.
When the box is constructed as shown in iigs.1 andv 2, I make the anges a, by preference, inclined inwardly, so that the space inside said flanges forms a ame whenthe convenient receptaclel for a fur collar or other article of a similar nature,'and that, when the cover is thrown y open, reasy access can be hadto the muti contained in the body oi thebox,` and also to the collar contained in the pover. f
By making the flanges a. inwardly inclined, the receptacle formed by them is capable of retaining a fur collar without much, if anything, to hold it in position. f
It' desired, an elastic band, b, may. be stretched across the collar to prevent it from dropping ont. When the cover. is hinged to the body of the box, as shownv is gs. 1 and 2, I attach 'to its rear edge an apron', 0,-,said'apron being secured at its opposite end to the inner snrfaceot the front side of the body of the box, so .that on .opening the covjer the apron is`A raised from'theposition shown in tig. 2, tothat shown in iig. 1,`and a muff or article placed onsaidapron is automatically lifted up, so that it canbe conveniently taken out of the box. Said apron forms aconvenientsupport for a muli or other article of a similar nature.
To the inner surface of the front side of the body of the box opposite to that side to which the cover is hinged, I apply a counter-weight, d, so that when the cover is thrown open the box is prevented from tipping over.
The box may also be constructed as shown, tigs. 3 land 4, where one side thereof is hinged at the bottom, so that it can be turned down to get access to the two compartments of the box. In this case' the cover, instead of being hinged to the body of the box, lifts right oii, and both the cover and the hinged side of the box are provided with internal flanges to produce tight joints.
What I claim as new, and desire to secureby Letters Patent, is
1. rlhe apron G, forming both a support for a muli' or other article when the lid isclosed, and a means for elevating when the lid is raised, said apron extending frornthe rear edge of the hinged cover to the front edge of the body ofthe box A, as herein shown and described. y 4
2..Ihe box A,'with its lid B, provided with the' flanges a, in combination with the above, substantially as set forth. A
3. The inwardly-inclined flanges a a upon the lid B, forming a double jointand a receptacle, as described, in combination withthe box A, substantially as set forth,
