Application led December 13, 15H3. Serial No. 896,629.
citizen` of the United States, residing at'` Sliamokii1,in the county of Northumberland and State of Pennsylvania, have invented newv and useful Improvements in Sani-tary Toilet-Seats, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to sanitary toilet seat covers; and it has for its primary object the provision cfa device of this charac-A ter which may be formed principally from a single strip of tissue paper or the like and arranged so that it may be accurately and effectually made to cover all parts of the seat.
Another object of the invention is the pron g vision of a device of 'this character which will consist of a protecting covering and means adapted to be engaged between` the bowl and the seat for securely retaining the cover in an applied position.
A. further object of the invention is the provision of holding means for securing the cover in place which will' be provided with anextension which may be grasped 'between 'the fingers of the hsnd to facilitate the operation of removing the cover from the seat after use. n U l With these and other objects 1n view, the
invention consists of certain novel features-V 'of construction, combmation and arrangement of parts, as will be hereinafter dcscribed and claimed.
In the accompanying drawings :-Figure 1 is a top plan view of the cover, showing the application thereof to the seat; Fig. 2 is a perspective `view of the cover, showing the manner of initially assembling the covers in package form; Fig. 3 is a section, taken on the line 3-3 of Fig. l; Fig. d is a section taken on the-line 4 4 of Fig. l; Fig.
5 is a perspective view, showing the manner in which the cover may be folded and arranged in a compact `package initially; and Fig. 6 is a horizontal section through the front portion vof the cover.
The cover is constructed from a main sheet or body l of tissue paper, which may be treated, if desired, with an antiseptic solution. The sheet is of a size slightly exceeding the size of the scatto which it is to be applied, and it is provided with a cen-A tral opening 2 and extending in the direction of the opening areslits 3 by means of which the intervening portions 4l of the sheet between the slits may be 4llered or folded in a1 downward direction and against the adjacent surfaces of the opening in the seat, as
folded downwardly in the direction. of the bowl of the closet structure, as conventionally illustrated herein. sheet is provided with short tabs 5, to which small fastening strips (i may he cemented or otherwise suitably secured. These strips are provided with relatively free portions 7 that are adapted to be extended into the spaces between the hopper of the bowl and the seat, shown in Fig. 4, and in this manner the cover may be eifectually held in anapplied position. At the front the sheet is provided with an extension 5 similar to the extensions 5 at the sides of the sheet and as illustrated said extension 5 is provided with a fastening G which is identical with the fastener t which is adapted to .be extended into the space between the seat and the hopper of the howl structure, as shown in Fig. f As an additional protection the sheet is provided at its front with an apron or flap 8 whiehis normally folded onto the adjacent body of the sheet and which is adapted to be folded to. the position shown in Fig. 3, where it will depend slightly into the howl of the-. closet structure. "lhe said apron or portion or rods l2 that extend in a horizontal direc.
tion from a bracket plate 13. This plate may be secured upon the wall and a number of the sheets may be arranged in package form and they may be singly removed and mounted on vthe seatas may be required.
Owing t0 the fact that the extensions 5 normally extend beyond the sides of the seat, as clearly,Y shown in Figs. l and il, it is evident that said extensions may be readily grasped between the fingers of the hand and the sheet quickly removed from the seat when desired.
lt may be desirable to dispense the sheets from vending apparatus or to otherwise arrange the sheets in individual package form and in view thereof many folds may be taken at appropriate parts of the sheet and At the sides the ILOG definite portions of the sheet may be interfolded with each other, so that the covei` in its entirety will assume the comparatively compact package shown in Fig. 6. i
i claim A toilet seat cover oomprisi a single strip of flexible material provi ed with e central opening and radial slits extending in the direction of the opening, an apron 10 forming an integral portion of the sheet l' and located at the front thereof and normally underlying the adjacent body of the sheet and provided with a longitudinal continuous fold.
In testimony whereof -I eix my signature 15 in presence of two witnesses,
.ROY J. TROUTMAN.
