CUSPIDOR.

To all whom it may concern Be it known that I, GEORGE lVooDwoRTH, a citizen of the United States, residing at Sheffield, in the county of Bureau and State of Illinois, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Cuspidors; and I do declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same.

This invention relates to improvements in cuspidors and particularly to cuspidors adapted to be destroyed after being used.

The principal object of the invention is to produce a cuspidor formed entirely of combustible material and including a shell, a receptacle therein and spaced from the walls thereof, both being frusto-conical in shape, and an inflammable and plastic filler between these members.

Another object is to provide a cuspidor of the character described which will be simple and inexpensive in construction, and efficient, reliable and sanitary in use.

lVith these and other objects in view, the invention consists of certain novel features of construction, and the combination and arrangement of parts as will be more fully described and claimed.

In the accompanying drawings: Figure 1 is a perspective view of my improved cuspidor showing the disinfectant supplying mechanism applied thereto; Fig. 2 is a central vertical cross section of the cuspidor; Fig. 3 is a top plan view of the same.

My improved cuspidor may be formed of paper, paper pulp or any other suitable combustible material and constructed in any suitable shape. In the present instance the cuspidor is shown as comprising a main body portion 1 consisting of an outer shell or casing 2 having cylindrical side walls extending upwardly a short distance from the bottom as at 3, said side walls then converging upwardly for a suitable distance as at 4 to form a frusto-conical support for the flared or funnel shaped mouth piece 5 of the cuspidor.

Centered within the shell or casing 2 is a frusto-conical receptacle 6, the upper edge of which is turned outward into a flange 6 secured to the upper edge of the portion 4 of the shell in any suitable manner. The

receptacle is of less size than the shell, although its larger lower end is larger than the smaller upper end of the shell, and between said parts is an annular space deslgned to hold a filler 16 of paraflin or other inexpensive and highly inflammable material which is molded therein beneath the flange 6 to hold the parts in proper relative position, which, when the cuspidor is burned, will facilitate the complete combus tion thereof. The inner surface of the receptacle 6 as well as the inner surface of the funnel shaped or flared mouth piece 5 of the cuspidor has preferably applied thereto a coating of non-combustible paint or other material which will obviate the danger of the cuspidor catching fire from lighted matches, cigar butts or the like thrown into the same.

Resting upon the flange 6 and disposed across the upper end of the converging portion f of the shell and at the lower end of the flared portion 5 is a screen 7 of fine wire which is provided to catch matches, cigar butts or other objects thrown into the cuspidor. The receptacle 6 is preferably partially filled with a suitable absorbent material 8 which is also combustible and which is designed to absorb the liquid in the receptacle so that when the cuspidor is burned the same will be more readily and thoroughly consumed.

In connection with the cuspidor, I preferably provide a disinfecting supplying mechanism which may be of any suitable construction and which is here shown as comprising a supporting rod or standard 9 having on its lower end spring gripping fingers 10 which are adapted to be engaged with the edge of the upper portion 5 of the cuspidor as shown. The upper end of the standard 9 is turned inwardly and downwardly over the cuspidor and has secured thereto a suitable receptacle 11 for holding a disinfecting fluid which is intended to slowly drip from the receptacle into the cuspidor.

From the foregoing description taken in connection with the accompanying drawings, the construction and operation of the invention will be readily understood without requiring a more extended explanation.

Various changes in the form, proportion, and the minor details of construction may be resorted to without departing from the principle or sacrificing any of the advantages of the invention as claimed.

Having thus described my invention, what I claim is;

The herein described combustible sanitary cuspidor comprising a paper receptacle and an outer paper shell, the latter consisting of a circular flat bottom, a vertical wall rising therefrom and converging inwardly to form a frusto cone shaped body, and the receptacle consisting of a flat circular bottom larger than the smaller end of said body and a frusto-conical wall rising from said bottom and spaced from said body, the upper edge of this wall being turned outward into an annular horizontal flange fitting snugly within the smaller end of said body and spaced below the upper edge of the same,

a woven wire disk seated on said flange, an inverted frusto-cone-shaped mouth-piece at the top of the shell and having its small lower end resting on said disk and secured within the upper end of said body, and a filling of paraffin molded in the space between the bottoms and walls of the receptacle and shell, the filling being thicker at the intermediate portion of the side wall, and a coating of fire-proof paint in the interior of said receptacle and mouth-piece.
