To all whom it may concern Be it known that I, EVERETT M. DOUGI-IERTY, a citizen of the United States, residing at Escanaba, in the county of Delta and State of Michigan, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Fasteners, of which the following is a specification.
This application is a division of the application filed December 21, 1912, Serial No. 737,996, in which is disclosed a display apparat-us designed more particularly for supporting rugs, curtains and similar articles.
The subject-matter of the present application relates to the devices for fastening the articles to the display arms of the apparatus, and the object of the invention is to provide a novel and improved fastening as will hereinafter be described and claimed.
In the accompanying drawing forming a part of this specification, Figure 1 is a perspective view of a fragment of the display arm with one of the fastening devices mounted thereon, and Fig. 2 is an elevation of the device.
Referring specifically to the drawing, 23 denotes the supporting arm of the display apparatus, on which arm the rugs or other articles are adapted to be hung for the purpose of displaying the same. The arm is channel shaped in cross section, with the channel at the bottom.
The device for securing the rug or other article on the arm 23 is formed of spring steel which is bent around the arm and has its ends crossing the same at the top and bent upward to form two upstanding prongs 31 located near the edges of the arm, so that two rugs, etc., may be hung from the same. The device is bent to seat in the channel of the arm, and it is slidable along the same. As the device is bent to pass under the arm and up and over the opposite side thereof, the weight of the rugs, etc., fastened by the prongs on each side of the arm, causes said prongs to pull against each other, thereby tightening the device around the arm, so that it is held in place thereon by friction. Upon removing the rugs, etc, the fastener is released, and it may then be slid along the arm, and changed from one position to another at will. By pressing the prongs together slightly, the fastener can he slipped over the end of the arm to the place desired, and upon releasing the pressure, the prongs will spring back and tighten the fastener on the arm without any other securing means.
Any desired number of fasteners may be employed.
I claim:
In a display apparatus, a supporting arm, and a member passing around said arm, and having end portions which extend in opposite directions across the arm and terminate in outstanding prongs, said member being resilient to grip the arm.
